Angling experts say there are a number of ways fishermen can help protect themselves after a sea angler died after fishing off rocks in north Cornwall this weekend.

The 42-year-old from St Dennis was fishing in the early hours of Sunday morning with two others from rocks at Tintagel Haven when he was swept into the sea.

"They're mainly worn in the winter because they are very warm and waterproof. And, if you fall in the water, you will float."

East Devon District Council said the cliff checks, undertaken to "ensure the continued safety of the public using facilities situated beneath the cliffs", would see some loose debris being removed by hand tools.
