    A man arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a body in Plymouth has been released without charge.

    Devon and Cornwall Police said, external the death of the 43-year-old man is now being treated as unexplained, but no longer suspicious.

    Officers were called to a property of Old Laira Road on Wednesday evening, where the body was found and "the presentation of the scene was such that the man's death was regarded as suspicious"

    A 21-year-old man was arrested on in Tavistock yesterday, but following further enquiries and a post mortem examination, he's been released with no further action taken against him.

    Senior investigating officer Det Insp Steve Hambly said: "Whilst no longer regarded as suspicious, the circumstances around the death remain unexplained, and, as such, further enquiries will continue today.

    "It is anticipated that a file will be submitted to the coroner in due course."

    Lecturers at the University of Exeter are taking part in industrial action today in a row over pensions.

    Singer-songwriter and political activist Billy Bragg and Exeter Labour MP Ben Bradshaw will be addressing the striking lecturers in the city later this morning.

    But the ongoing dispute has prompted a petition signed by nearly 5,000 students - in Exeter and also from student at its Penryn campus in Cornwall - opposing the strike who are calling for "some form of compensation for everyone who loses contact time" during the industrial action.

    The university said it was doing its utmost to help students through "this difficult time", adding that it had has detailed plans in place to try to minimise the impact on students' education.

    Plans to centralise some radiotherapy services are being opposed in Cornwall.

    If the plans by NHS England are approved, some patients could have to travel to Plymouth or Exeter for treatment.

    The Sunrise Appeal charity, which is rallying support to keep all services in Cornwall, said more than 10,000 people in the South West had responded to a consultation on the subject.

    "Why is it always us who have to do the travelling?" former cancer patient Jennifer Woodford said.

    "The people that make these rules have no idea of the geography of Cornwall: the road systems, the seasons ... in summer you could be stuck in traffic jams for hours."

    NHS England said the majority of cancer patients would continue to receive treatment at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, but certain treatments for less common types of cancer could be better carried out at larger centres out of county, where specialists see higher volumes of similar cases.

    A Devon woman who needed 28 pints of blood because of complications during childbirth is urging more people to come forward to become donors.

    Mel Smart, from near Honiton, almost died giving birth to her daughter 11 years ago.

    The blood used to save her life came from 28 different people.

    Across the country, the NHS has said it "urgently" needs blood donors to help rebuild stocks after the bad weather led to fewer donations., external

    More than 500 donor appointments were cancelled across Devon, Cornwall and Somerset alone.

    Mel said she would never forget what has been done for her.

    She said: "Every day I'm grateful for being here [and to] the people who donated blood 11 years ago."

    The RMT union, which is in dispute over guards' safety, said labour would be withdrawn from 00:01 on Friday 30 March until 23:59 on Monday 2 April 2018.

    The Environment Agency has two flood warnings and nine flood alerts still in place for Devon, external this morning, following heavy rain on Wednesday.

    River levels on the worst affected rivers - the Clyst and Washford - have now peaked but will remain high.

    Flood alerts are in place for many rivers in east Devon - including the Axe, Otter and Sid, along with the lower and middle Exe.

    Teams involved in £12m worth of work to replace sand at Dawlish Warren say they're not dismayed despite much of it having been shifted in Storm Emma.

    The Environment Agency said it was natural for sand to be moved around with the seasons, adding that it could just as easily move back.

    Richard Cox, from the agency, said "a great deal of sand" had been moved.

    He said: "It's moved down the beach to the near shore, away from the top. But that is a natural thing to happen on a beach.

    "In the winter months, it tends to move down. In the summer months it moves back."

    A man has been arrested after a "truly abhorrent" act left two cats brutally mutilated in the grounds of Truro Cathedral, Cornwall.

    The animals were discovered skinned and with other major injuries on 12 March behind the cathedral.

    A 24-year-old man was arrested, but released pending investigation.

    Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 101.
