    A Cornish primary school is using chickens to teach maths.

    Pupils at St Catherine's Primary School, Launceston, have hatched chicks in an incubator. Teachers are asking them to work out how big the coop should be and how much feed they will eat in a year.

    Year five teacher Rebecca Brewer says the idea came from the whole class.

    "Chicken club is about maths," she said. "It's also about enjoying being in school.

    "There's a lot of maths behind animals and keeping animals - from measuring out the size that you need in the field to be able to keep them and measuring the amount of feed they need."

    A share project has been launched in a bid to raise £350,000 to pay for a geothermal heating project to warm up part of the Jubilee Pool in Penzance.

    EU funding is paying for drilling the well to heat a section of the water to 35C and the project is costing about £1.75m in total.

    Now the Friends of Jubilee Pool is launching a community share offer to raise the money needed to complete the work.

    Susan Stuart, Jubilee Pool director, said "people can actually own a stake in the pool" with shares costing £20 each for people living in Cornwall, and £50 elsewhere.

    A group of surgeries in the South West says it has not had a single applicant come forward for a GP partner vacancy in two years.

    Drake Medical Alliance in Plymouth has been hiring support staff like paramedics and nurses to help take the strain.

    But doctors say people are being put off the job because of over regulation, underfunding and an increasing workload.
