    Exeter City youngsters Max Smallcombe and Alex Hartridge have joined National League South side Truro City on six-month loan deals.

    Wales youth international midfielder Smallcombe, 19, has played one first team game for Exeter in last season's EFL Trophy, as did fellow 19-year-old Hartridge.

    Hartridge had a spell on loan at the White Tigers last season and both featured in Exeter's 6-0 pre-season win at Truro last week

    A elderly man has been rescued by firefighters in Plymouth after falling down stairs and getting trapped at the bottom when he was wedged between a mobility scooter and a door.

    Two fire crews were called to the property in Distine Close in the Eggbuckland area at about 19:55 on Monday by the 89-year-old man's daughter, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said, external.

    He was trapped for about three-and-a-half hours before he was released.

    Firefighters gave him oxygen and an ambulance was called to his home.

    The man's condition is not known.

    Torquay United assistant manager Martin Kuhl has left the club after less than a year at Plainmoor.

    Kuhl, who joined as number two to Gary Owers last September following Kevin Nicholson's sacking, has left to "pursue an academy coaching position closer to his family home", according to the National League South club.

    The club will appoint a successor in due course.

    Meanwhile the Gulls have signed defenders Ryan Dickson and Kyle Cameron.

    Left-back Dickson, 31, who began his career at Plymouth Argyle and spent time on loan at Plainmoor 11 years ago, has most recently been with Yeovil Town.

    Cameron, who is 21, began his youth career with Newcastle United and has spent time on loan at Workington, York City, and Queen of the South.

    A government grant of more than £850,000 to Exeter Cathedral for urgent repairs has helped prepare the 900-year-old building for World War One commemorations, staff say.

    Safety improvements included repairs to parts of roof and drainage, conservation work to the East End window as well as the removal of some asbestos.

    The cathedral will be hosting a series of talks on conflict and reconciliation and two concerts to mark the 100th anniversary of the singing of the war's armistice this November.

    Rock band Coldplay, fronted by Devon's Chris Martin, have been listed as seventh in business magazine Forbes' annual list of the world's best-paid celebrities

    The Celebrity 100 countdown, external said the band made $115.5m (£87m) last year.

    The list ranks "front of the camera" stars around the globe using their estimated pre-tax earnings from 1 June 2017 to 1 June 2018.

    Coldplay are the first British act on the list.

    Putting them there was their A Head Full Of Dreams Tour, which grossed more than $500m (£377m) in its two-year, five-continent run.

    But they've still a way to go before they reach the top spot. That was taken by former boxer and boxing promoter Floyd Mayweather, estimated to have raked in $285m (£215m).

    The Duke of Cornwall has revealed that he knows a bit about Cornwall-based hit TV drama Poldark.

    Prince Charles' admission came when he visited a bookshop in Fowey on Monday and stumbled across some of the novels of writer Winston Graham.

    As he chatted to the shop's owners, he told them: "What I can't get over watching that Poldark stuff on the television, is just how many he wrote."

    Graham wrote 12 novels in his Cornish saga, which has proved a huge hit with Sunday night TV audiences on BBC One.

    It is currently on its fourth series, but plans are already under way for filming season five, with the National Trust having applied for planning permission for a temporary set to be erected at Botallack in west Cornwall.

    The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall are continuing their visit to Devon and Cornwall on Tuesday.

    Residents in Penzance are being urged to report drug and alcohol abuse and anti-social behaviour to the authorities instead of turning to social media.

    Patrols involving police, the council and the drug charity Addaction are being carried out, after complaints from local people.

    The Safer Penzance partnership says it has asked disruptive people to leave and is trying to support the homeless and vulnerable.

    Coastguards in Cornwall have criticised hoax callers after rescuers spent an hour-and-a-half searching for a reported casualty.

    Newquay Coastguard tweeted that some of its staff, RNLI volunteers and ambulance staff were involved in the operation at Crantock after they were called out at about 21:45 on Monday.

    After determining the call-out was a hoax, coastguards said: "Fortunately this is a rare occurrence for us but it is incredibly stupid. It puts lives at risk."

  12. More changes to recycling proposed in east Devonpublished at 07:36 British Summer Time 17 July 2018

    There could be another change to recycling collections in east Devon.

    SUEZ, the council's recycling contractor, has proposed an additional recycling sack, specifically for cardboard.

    The company says the current system - which sees paper, cardboard and glass mixed in the same green box - puts crews sorting the material under pressure.

    It says the quality of paper and cardboard has also suffered.

    The additional sack will be trialled in Woodbury in the autumn and will involve about 850 properties.

    New sacks could then roll out from March 2019 district-wide, if the trial is a success.

    Police are trying to trace a 22-year-old man from Torquay, external.

    Samuel Micklewright was due to appear at Newton Abbot Magistrates' Court on Friday 6 July on charges of theft, possession of heroin and breach of a court order.

    He was last seen in Torquay and has links across Torbay and the wider south Devon area.

    He is described as 5' 8" (1.72m) tall and is stocky. He has short, dark brown hair and stubble.
