Michelle said: "They broke in through our downstairs toilet window which was locked.
"We recently lost my mum and her personal belongings that were on the side had been riffled through.
"I hate the fact they were in our house while we were asleep."
A car belonging to their son was also crashed into as the suspects drove off the driveway.
David said: "It's like being kicked when you're already down. Why does someone feel like they're able to get away with it.
"As a victim I feel like even if they catch them it will just be a slap on the wrist.”
A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Officers are investigating a burglary in Plymouth overnight on Sunday into Monday morning.
"It is believed that a property was accessed in the area and the keys to a black VW Golf were taken and the vehicle subsequently stolen, this has yet to have been located.

The deputy mayor of St Austell denies a homeless hostel in the town has become a magnet for addicts from all over the country.
The accusation has been levelled at Cosgarne House by local MP Steve Double.
Mr Double also disputed the hostel's claim that its policy of allowing residents to drink and take drugs in their rooms had contributed to a reduction of street drinking in the town.
Deputy Mayor Tim Stiles, who is also a director of Cosgarne, said the facility was "certainly not taking them in from all over the country".
He said: "About 65% of the resident that we house are from mid Cornwall, 5% from north Cornwall and 30% from west Cornwall."
In Exeter, New North Road closed in both directions due to a building fire between Howell Road and Queen Street. Traffic is queueing.
