    The owner of two boats from Brixham harbour involved in a vicious scrap over scallops in the English Channel says the problem has gone on for years but always "falls on deaf ears".

    The clash happened around 12 nautical miles (22km) off the Normandy coast, near the Bay of Seine, with French fishermen accused of throwing insults, rocks and smoke bombs at their British rivals.

    UK fishermen are demanding government protection, while the French bewail the loss of a "primary resource".

    British boats can gather scallops year-round, but French law restricts the scallop fishing season to between 1 October and 15 May.

    The UK government is yet to respond.

    Nearly 9,000 children under the age of 14 in the South West have harmed themselves deliberately in the last year, a report has found., external

    The study by the Childrens' Society also looked at the reasons behind self-harm.

    Data shows young people who are worried about their sexuality are particularly vulnerable.

    The Children's Society is urging the government to act on what it's calling a "crisis in children's mental health".

    The charity says councils don't have the money to pay for vital, early support for vulnerable children.

    The government says it's spending £1.4bn on schemes to improve young people's mental health over the next two years.

    Firefighters have tackled an accidental kitchen fire in Plymouth on Tuesday.

    Two fire engines from Crownhill were scrambled to Thirlmere Gardens at about 10:50 to tackle the fire on the ground floor.

    No-one was hurt in the blaze.

    Two fishing boats from Brixham harbour have clashed with French fishermen off the Normandy coast.

    The Golden Promise and Joanna C returned to the harbour with damaged windows.

    The crews alleged they were surrounded and had rocks and metal shackles thrown at their boats.

    Nathan Clark - the skipper of the Joanna C - said they have done "nothing wrong"...

    British boats are legally entitled to fish in the scallop-rich area.

    But their presence has infuriated the French, who accuse the British of shamelessly depleting shellfish stocks. British boats can gather scallops year-round, but French law restricts the scallop fishing season to between 1 October and 15 May.

    Firefighters were called to an electrical fire in Dartmouth.

    Crews from Dartmouth, Paignton, Brixham and an aerial ladder from Crownhill were scrambled to tackle the blaze in Dartmouth at 09:15 on Tuesday.

    On arrival, crews found smoke coming from electrical cables and handed the incident over to Western Power Distribution.

    Several South West zoos are recycling their old uniforms by giving them to conservationists in Africa.

    Paignton Zoo, Torquay's Living Coasts and Newquay Zoo are donating the clothes to the Pan-African Sanctuary Alliance - a group of primate sanctuaries.

    They are donating items including polo shirts, sweatshirts, fleeces, waterproof coats and the odd hat.

    Volunteers at Paignton Zoo, headed up by volunteer seamstress Nikki Stewart, are sewing over the logos and preparing the clothes for shipping.
