    BBC Radio Cornwall

Campaigners are collecting people's views on how the Cornish stretch of the A38 could be made safer.

The Safe38 community group will then hand the suggestions to the council on Monday, ahead of a meeting with the Transport Secretary.

There are long-term hopes of a dual carriageway road from Exeter to Bodmin, but Councillor Jesse Foot says something has to be done in the short term.

    Quote Message

We can't wait any longer. Any more collisions or any more fatalities would be unacceptable. Anything we can do in the short term to make the road a little bit safer is what we're asking for."

  7. Man awaits appeal eight years after trialpublished at 08:17 British Summer Time 26 October 2018

    BBC Radio Devon

A dyslexic man, who claims he was wrongly convicted of an attempted murder in Newton Abbot, is still awaiting an appeal - eight years after the crime was committed.

Roger Khan, was found guilty of the attack in October 2010 and was jailed for 30 years after representing himself at trial.

His case has been taken up by the Centre for Criminal Appeals - a charity set up by British lawyer Emily Bolton.

The group has a track record of freeing US inmates on death row.

    Quote Message

He represented himself at a trial for attempted murder and that is thankfully quite rare in this country, but certainly brings into doubt the fairness of the trial proceedings. Now that's not to say that that proves that you didn't do it but every stone that we've overturned in this case has given us more and more reasons to suspect that he's a victim of a miscarriage of justice."

Emily Bolton, Centre for Criminal Appeals
