Millions of pounds of extra cash from property developers is being spent on regeneration and community projects in Plymouth.

  4. Censured Torbay councillor 'doesn't accept findings'published at 08:13 Greenwich Mean Time 29 October 2018

    BBC Spotlight

A Torbay councillor who was formally censured by the authority for a breach of conduct says he does not accept the council's findings.

Councillor Mark King serves as an independent in the Cockington and Chelston Ward.

He faced six allegations relating to the way he conducted himself as a councillor.

    Mark King

The Standards Hearing Sub Committee found Councillor King had tried to get the complainant - who remains anonymous - to use a friendship with the elected Mayor Gordon Oliver to persuade him to make Councillor King the deputy mayor.

It also found he acted in a way that placed himself in a position where he was under obligation to the complainant - which could influence him in the performance of his official duties.

Councillor King has been censured and will have to have training in the Members' Code of Conduct.

I am of the opinion that this is a political decision rather than an evidence-based one. There was no evidence whatsoever to support the committee's findings. The council paid thousands of pounds for this independent report and the committee chose to ignore it. To say that I am disappointed is a gross understatement."
