NHS bosses are targeting GPs on the other side of the world to fill jobs in Plymouth.
The shortage of doctors in the city has led to pressure on health services with 23 current vacancies in practices across the city.
Plymouth City Councillors were told an NHS campaign to recruit from overseas has been extended to Australia - with four doctors from down under expressing an interest in working in Plymouth.
It's believed they were attracted by the city's "Ocean City" reputation.
NHS recruiters are now working with a relocation agency to bring in more applicants.

Parking restrictions are due to come into force around Exeter's IKEA store after complaints from residents about shoppers leaving cars in local roads.
Councillors approved a series of double yellow lines on the main roads - as well as side road junctions.

The "no waiting at any time" restriction around junctions is designed to avoid problems cause by IKEA customers and match-day visitors to Exeter Chiefs at the nearby Sandy Park stadium.
Councillors on Devon County Council's Exeter highways committee were told: "The proposal is for restrictions to protect the junctions where parking should not take place as per the highway code.
"Residents are to be consulted about a residents parking scheme which may further tackle IKEA and matchday parking."

A man was left with a single wound to his stomach after an assault in Plymouth, police have said.
It happened on Sunday 11 November at about 12.45 on College Lane in Mutley.
Officers added the man - in his 40s - approached an unknown man and woman who were said to be arguing and attempted to intervene.
He was treated in the city's Derriford Hospital and released the same day.
No weapon was seen by the victim, but it is "believed be a bladed or sharp-edged item", police said.
The offenders are described as a man who is about 5ft 6in (1.67m) tall and of stocky build and woman of very slight build and about 5ft 4in (1.62m) tall.

Plymouth has the 10th highest rate of fly-tipping in England, according to figures from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
Almost one million incidents of fly-tipping were reported by councils across the country during 2017-18 - the first fall in five years.
The government said two-thirds of fly-tipping involved household waste.
It is the first time fly-tipping rates have fallen in five years, but the decrease is slight.
