Plymouth City Council is working on a plan to tackle possible food shortages after Brexit.
But the council’s Labour leader says the Government is leaving the authority in the dark about the risks.
Tudor Evans has confirmed the council will be making plans for “food resilience” among other potential issues from leaving the European Union in March.
An advice notice sent to all UK local authorities says they should set up a team to make risk assessments of how different outcomes for Brexit might affect food availability and supplies in their areas.
Councillor Evans, leader of the city council, said: “This is one of the main reasons that we asked the government for information on how leaving the EU will affect Plymouth.
“We have to be prepared to face what’s coming."

Patients have had operations postponed due to the sudden closure of operating theatres at a Devon hospital.
Two of the 10 theatres at Torbay Hospital were closed after an inspection revealed concerns about the reliability of the air handling units.
The hospital aims to have at least one of the theatres open with a new air handling unit by May.
A statement from John Harrison, Interim Chief Operating Officer, said a fan failed at a third theatre, but that was due to have been repaired by the end of last week.
Mr Harrison said: “Closing these theatres at almost no notice inevitably means that we are having to postpone surgery for some patients.
“We are contacting everyone whose operations need to be rescheduled; and where possible, we are offering alternative dates."
