    An attempted armed robbery at a convenience store near Camborne was thwarted by shop staff, police say, external.

    Employees at Beacon Stores on Fore Street in Beacon were threatened with a knife during the incident, which took place at 12:45 on Thursday.

    Two men aged 34 and 20, and a 32-year-old woman, all from Camborne have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and remain in police custody.

    Following the attempted knifepoint robbery at Beacon Stores in Camborne yesterday, we have made arrests and now have three in custody. It is now known that shop staff were responsible for thwarting the robbery and that those responsible left empty handed in a car. Thanks to the thorough information provided by witnesses, the car was identified and located, leading to arrests in the Camborne area."

    The assistant principal of a Cornish college has thanked everyone who helped after staff and students were snowed in on Thursday night.

    Emmie Seward-Adams from Bodmin College said she was "very proud" of the "amazing" staff, students, parents and the local community.

    Pupils were described as being in "high spirits", and spent the evening eating chips and watching films.

    "Huge thanks too to everyone who offered sleeping bags and also the Spar shop who donated chocolate and drinks," Mrs Seward-Adams said in a post on the sixth form's Facebook page.

    "Definitely amazing staff who went the extra mile!"

    Everyone at the college managed to get home, with the last few students and staff safely reunited with family and friends just after 21:00.

    A landslip - containing 1,000 tonnes of debris - has blocked a road to vehicles in Cornwall.

    About 30 homes in the cul-de-sac at Scrations Lane, Lostwithiel, can only be reached by foot.

    Cornwall Council said some residents’ vehicles are on the other side of the landslip and cannot be moved.

    Neighbouring properties are providing emergency pedestrian access to the lane

    Wester Power Distribution has instructed their contactor to attend in case there is any risk to power lines.

    The council is sending officers to provide support to residents and keep them informed of what is happening.

    A woman was turned away from a Premier Inn in a snowstorm because she had a dog with her.

    Kate Bullen and 13-year-old Bert went to The Callywith in Bodmin as heavy snow fell in the area on Thursday.

    But staff told the 38-year-old that no dogs were allowed in the hotel and asked her to leave.

    The Premier Inn said: "Unfortunately, with the exception of assistance dogs, we don't allow pets to stay at our hotels."

    The graphic designer had been sent home from work as the weather worsened and was eventually forced to abandon her car.

    "I am frankly disgusted by it," her mum Linda Bullen said. "Why would you turn anyone out into a blizzard?"

    Mrs Bullen said she called the hotel after the incident and claimed the manager did not apologise and said it was company policy.

    Cormac has praised one of their gritter drivers after he escorted an ambulance through the snow to a patient's address.

    The council's roads and landscaping team said the driver, named Lee, was stopped by the ambulance crew while on a blue light run in Bodmin as they struggled to get through the treacherous conditions.

    More than 100 people who left their cars on the A30 to seek shelter at a pub in Cornwall were told to pick up their vehicles "as soon as possible" by Highways England after gritters and recovery teams worked through the night.

    Councillor Geoff Brown, who handles transport at Cornwall Council, said "the actions of a few impacted on many" after abandoned cars blocked emergency services, delaying the clear-up operation.

    Two stranded buses carrying school children were among those rescued on Thursday night, he said.
