  5. Campaign under way to replace steps at Bude Sea Poolpublished at 16:13 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2019

    BBC Radio Cornwall

A campaign's under way in Bude to raise thousands of pounds to repair the stone steps leading to the town's famous sea pool.

They were built in the 1930s and it's estimated £27,000 is needed to make them safe.

The plan is for the existing steps to be removed and replaced with local Cornish grey granite.

Campaigners say they'll then be more durable with little or no maintenance and safer for the public to use.

They're quite old and over the years they've been layered with various concrete slabs and unfortunately when you look closely you can see how vulnerable they are and we really don't think they're going to make another winter.
