Independent Group MP Dr Sarah Wollaston's amendment, which called for an extension of Article 50 for another referendum to take place, has been rejected by 334 votes to 85 - a majority of 249.

Earlier, Shadow Brexit Secretary Sir Keir Starmer confirmed that Labour will not be supporting the amendment.

The official 'People's Vote' campaign has also expressed a will for MPs to not vote in favour of the amendment, as "it is not the right time."

Sarah Wollaston is the MP for the Totnes constituency.

Police are appealing to identify and speak to the victim of a robbery in Newton Abbot.

It happened at about 17:20 on Tuesday on Wolborough Street.

Police said it was reported a man had taken a handbag from a woman.

A 17-year-old man was arrested and later released under investigation pending further inquiries, police said.

Officers are now appealing to identify and speak to the victim.

It’s believed she collected her bag, which had been thrown to the floor, and left the scene before police arrived.

She is described as a white female, about 50-years-old and of slim build.

She had shoulder length auburn hair and was carrying a large rectangular bag with a shoulder strap.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Devon and Cornwall Police via 101.

It's hoped a project to bring people with dementia and young people together - which started at a Plymouth secondary school six years ago - will be rolled out across other schools in the city.

The Jiminy Wicket dementia croquet sessions take place regularly at Stoke Damerel Community College - with younger students and residents of local care homes participating too.

Councillor Ian Tuffin from Plymouth City Council said it shows how "amazing" it is to see young people display their care for people in the community.

"I really want to spread this around the city, it can play an important part in our work to tackle loneliness and social isolation," he added.

A man is set to stand trial later this year accused of the murder of three men in their 80s in Exeter.

Alexander Lewis-Ranwell, 27, of no fixed abode, is charged with the murders of twin brothers Dick and Roger Carter, who were 84, and 80-year-old Anthony Payne.

Mr Lewis-Ranwell - who was not present at the hearing at Exeter Crown Court on Thursday - is also accused of two offences of causing grievous bodily harm with intent on 9 February in Goodleigh, North Devon and 11 February in Exeter.

Prosecutor Richard Smith QC said: "This is a case that has three fatalities, five victims, two crime scenes and a wealth of investigation and forensic information."

Mr Payne was found dead at his Bonhay Road house on Monday 11 February.

The Carter brothers were found dead in Cowick Lane about 1.5 miles (2.4km) away the following day.

Mr Lewis-Ranwell was first arrested that evening.

The court heard two potential trial dates had been identified - of 15 July and 11 November.

A further case management hearing was set for 7 June.

A baby otter that was found orphaned and abandoned in South Devon has been successfully reintroduced to the wild.

The animal, known as Chestnut, was found nine months ago and has been nursed back to health by a North Devon charity called the UK Wild Otter Trust.
