  2. Oldway Mansion re-opening delayed over safety concernspublished at 11:08 Greenwich Mean Time 27 March 2019

    BBC Radio Devon

The re-opening of Oldway Mansion in Paignton to the public for the first time in six years has been delayed.

The historic building was due to open its doors to visitors on 6 and 7 April, but Torbay Council has cancelled all such events for now, saying the building is unsafe.

The mansion's future has been in doubt over the last few years. A rescue plan was recently approved and a new managing trust was due to launch on the open days.

However, the council said a "number of defects" had been identified which "need to be rectified before Oldway can be reopened to the public".

The authority added: "It may be decided that the funding required to deliver short term public access is better diverted to the longer term aim of bringing Oldway back into public use."

Robinson (pictured) and assistant manager Michael Meaker were relieved of their duties with the club just a point above the National League South relegation places.

Truro have gone six matches without a win and have lost six of their last nine.

Chairman Peter Masters told the BBC the decision was made in joint consultation with the Cornish Pirates - who bought the club earlier this month.

It is believed player discipline was one of the key reasons for the management change: Truro have had four red cards in their last six games.

A student nurse from Devon says she frequently considers quitting and many of her friends are having counselling.

    Beckie Luford

Beckie Luford, from Exmouth, said she loved her career but needed to speak out about how tough the training was .

She said she and her friends and colleagues were dealing with working weeks of more than 60 hours, including placements, university lectures, and working on dissertations.

She added that she knew more student nurses "who were having counselling" than those who weren't.

She said: "It's very tough and you definitely need to be ready. But it is possible and, if you have the support in place, it is such an amazing opportunity."

The Royal College of Nursing said it was calling for more investment in student nurses. The Department of Health and Social Care said it was providing more funding to increase university places.
