Plans to turn the historic Bodmin Jail into a luxury hotel have been supplemented with a new application to build 60 "glamping pods" in a neighbouring field.
The jail - which claims to have "the only working execution pit in the UK" - has been considered for development for years.
Supporters say it will bring a vital economic boost to the town, but there are concerns over excessive development and traffic problems.
The original jail was built for King George III in 1779, but the current structure was built with the help of 20,000 prisoners who brought 20,000 tonnes of granite from Bodmin’s Cuckoo Quarry.

The RSPCA received almost 700 calls about neglected, abandoned and stray exotic animals across Devon and Cornwall last year.
According to new figures from the charity, across England and Wales in 2018, the number of calls it had on its cruelty hotline increased by 13% from 2017 to 1,175,193 calls.
Among the incidents in the South West, officers were called to rescue a corn snake dumped in a river in Ottery St Mary and rescued a turtle left in an Exeter waterway.
The charity says some owners do not research the level of care the animals need to stay safe and healthy.
