A man from Devon who became the oldest skydiver in the world has died aged 103.
Bryson William Verdun Hayes, known as Verdun, was 101 years and 38 days old when he became the oldest man in the world to complete a skydive in Honiton in May 2017.
The D-Day veteran from Croyde passed peacefully away in hospital earlier according to his family.
His son Bryan said: "He was a wonderful father and Linda and I will miss him sorely.
"He lived life to the full and we are so proud of him may he now rest in peace."
The autumn term start date for pupils at a Cornwall nursery and infants schools has been delayed by four days after a mine shaft was found nearby.
Biscovey Academy in St Blazey told parents that the nursery and infants school would return on 9 September instead of 5 September after a depression was found in a footpath on Lamellyn Road.
Cornwall Council said contractors had fenced off the area "while a decision is made on how to remediate and make the shaft safe".
The academy said it had also closed a playground and relocated classrooms, although they are "not directly at risk".
"The safety of pupils, parents and staff is of paramount importance," the academy said in a statement.
Biscovey Junior Academy, which is near the junior and infants school, will open as planned on 5 September.
Twelve households in nearby Lesnewth (pictured above) were evacuated in August after the discovery of a mineshaft.
Ocean Housing said investigations were continuing into when the problem could be resolved and the residents returned.

A 'Stop the Coup' protest is planned in Torquay against the decision to suspend Parliament.
Organiser Jack Dart, a Liberal Democrat councillor said the aim was to demonstrate public opposition to the Government's decision.
The move by Prime Minister Boris Johnson to suspend the parliamentary session in September has been seen by critics as a way to avoid MPs trying to block the UK leaving the European Union without a deal on October 31.
The councillor said it would take place from 18:30 outside Torquay Town Hall.
Quote MessageIt is the behaviour of ‘tin-pot’ dictators who are mad with power. They decide to do as they please just so they can get a policy decision passed, so they don’t have to speak to Parliament. It is utterly ludicrous and not acceptable at all.
Jack Dart, Liberal Democrat councillor
