    It didn't take these soldiers from The Royal Anglian Regiment, external long to practise putting up a flood defence - 42 minutes in fact.

    About 120 troops from across the East of England travelled down to Shoeburyness for today's exercise.

    Two lanes may have now reopened, however there are still about five miles of queues and severe congestion in the Thurrock area.

    Traffic is currently back through Purfleet and Aveley to Rainham and through Grays.

    A second person has been charged with murder following the death of a 78-year-old man in Great Baddow last month.

    Brian Hurry was found dead at his home in Bramwoods Road just after 17:00 on 23 June.

    Terri Hurry, 41, of Spring Rise, Galleywood, is charged with murder, theft and perverting the course of justice. She is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court today.

    Michael McDonald, 24, of Tennyson Road, Chelmsford, was charged with murder on 23 June.

    Lanes three and four of  the QE2 Bridge have reopened after a crash closed the crossing for about nine hours.

    We've been sent more details on the two people injured in the QE2 Bridge crash at 02:00 this morning. 

    The passenger of the white BMW was a teenage boy. He was taken to hospital, but has since been discharged, police said.

    The woman driver remains in hospital with serious injuries. It's hoped that two lanes of the crossing will reopen shortly.

  7. Soldiers take part in Shoeburyness flood barrier trainingpublished at 10:15 British Summer Time 17 August 2016

    While we await an update on the QE2 Bridge closure, soldiers from The Royal Anglian Regiment, external are working with the Environment Agency today to learn how to assemble a temporary flood barrier.

    The training is taking place in Shoeburyness and will prepare troops should a flood ever hit the East coast.

    • All traffic is being diverted through the Dartford Tunnel, which is causing severe delays

    Two men arrested in connection with the murder of Chris May have been released without charge.

    The 28-year-old was last seen at his home in Kelvedon on 25 May 2015. His disappearance was originally treated as a missing person inquiry, but became an unsolved homicide case a year later.

    A man, 35, from Braintree arrested on suspicion of Chris’ murder and a 25-year-old man from Kelvedon arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice have been released from their bail due to insufficient evidence.

    Essex Police has just sent us some more details on Dartford Crossing accident. 

    A spokeswoman said a white BMW 118 hit the barrier on the QE2 Bridge at about 02:00 this morning.

    The woman driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital. Her passenger was also injured and he too has been taken to hospital for treatment.
