    Everybody has a road, according to performance poet Luke Wright, and his is the A12 - ruts and all.

    The poem, A12, is one of 40 created by poets across England for the #BBCLocalPoets, external project as part of National Poetry Day, external.

    Wright, who studied at the Norwich-based University of East Anglia, was inspired by the many hours he spends driving along the route from his home in Suffolk to Essex where he was brought up.

  5. One teenager still on police bail over death of Polish man in Harlowpublished at 13:08 British Summer Time 6 October 2016

    One 15-year-old from Harlow remains on police bail after five others have been released with no further action by police investigating the death of Arkadiusz Jozwik, known as Arek, near takeaway shops in The Stow on 27 August.

    Six teenagers, five aged 15 and one aged 16, all from Harlow, were arrested on suspicion of murder.

    Det Insp Danny Stoten said: "The investigation into Arek Jozwik's death is progressing and I am grateful to the Harlow community for their on-going support. 

    "Arek's family has been updated throughout the investigation. 

    "So far we have taken over 150 witness statements, spoken to over 300 people during house-to-house and general inquiries and seized over 100 hours of CCTV. 

    "In excess of 30 police officers and staff have been involved in the investigation."

    Five teenagers who were arrested and questioned over the killing of a Polish man in Harlow, have been released from bail with no further action due to insufficient evidence, Essex Police said.

    Officers said they would continue the investigation into the death of Arkadiusz Jozwik, known as Arek, in Harlow. 

    Mr Jozwik, 40, was assaulted at about 23:35 on 27 August outside the TGF Pizza and Mr Luigi's takeaway shops in The Stow. 

    After receiving a single blow to the head and falling to the ground he suffered head injuries and was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital. 

    He was later transferred to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, where he died on Monday evening 29 August.

    Train services between Wickford and Southend Victoria are cancelled, delayed or suspended due to a lorry hitting a railway bridge at Hockley.

    Disruption includes services to London Liverpool Street and is expected to last into the afternoon as engineers inspect the bridge for damage. 

    An alternative route is available on C2C rail services between Southend Central and Fenchurch Street.

    Abellio Greater Anglia, external said its tickets would be valid on C2C services.

    A medical practice in Grays has been censured by an NHS watchdog that discovered no systems in place in some areas of medicine management.

    Patients at the Balfour Medical Practice, run by Dr Anil Bansal, who were prescribed high-risk medicines or those requiring regular monitoring were not being monitored, according to a Care Quality Commission report, external

    Blank prescription forms and pads were not securely stored and there were no systems in place to monitor their use. 

    The practice, which had been described overall as "inadequate" by the commission after an inspection in May, also had high rates of anti-bacterial prescribing.

  12. Family rescued after left-over meal catches fire in ovenpublished at 09:14 British Summer Time 6 October 2016

    A Colchester couple and their two young children, both aged under five, have been rescued after a fire in their kitchen.

    It happened in Highwoods yesterday evening.

    Station Officer Craig Todd said: "The family had cooked a roast dinner the day before and had left a pan containing oil in the oven. 

    "The appliance was switched on again this evening and the oil caught alight, causing a fire with plenty of smoke."

    Plans for new trains on the Greater Anglia main line through Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex have moved a step closer.

    The European Investment Bank has agreed a £60m loan to the operator Abellio, external, to try to improve passenger services on the key route into London and other local services.

    The 378 new train carriages will replace the outdated electric and diesel trains currently in use.

    In August, the  company won a nine-year franchise, promising a £1.4bn investment programme.

    Abellio Greater Anglia advises that the lines between Marks Tey and Sudbury are closed, external, due to a fault with the train driver to signal box radio system.

    A GP surgery in Grays has been put into special measures by the health watchdog.

    Action has been taken against the Balfour Medical Practice, external which is run by Dr Anil Bansal after an inspection in May found the quality of care was "inadequate". 

    A key finding was that "appropriate recruitment checks on staff had not been undertaken prior to their employment and actions identified to address concerns with infection control practice had not been taken".

    The Care Quality Commission, external says a further inspection will be taking place in six months time.
