Anna Wafula-Strike, who's been speaking about the experience of wetting herself on board a train because the disabled toilet was out of action, says she "rarely feels disabled", but "when that happened I felt very vulnerable and really exposed. I felt humiliated. My dignity was taken away".
The paralympian appeared on the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire programme to speak out about the issue of a lack of working toilets for people with disabilities after she was caught short on a journey between Nuneaton and Stansted.
Mrs Wafula-Strike added that too many organisations and companies pay lip-service to provision for the disabled.
Her comments are supported by Sue Bott of Disabled Rights UK , externalwho said: "Unfortunately we have a tick-box mentality to access and the disabled. We don't also consider if the provision is actually working."
