  1. Wetting myself on train 'made me feel disabled' says paralympianpublished at 13:40 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2017

    Anna Wafula-Strike, who's been speaking about the experience of wetting herself on board a train because the disabled toilet was out of action, says she "rarely feels disabled", but "when that happened I felt very vulnerable and really exposed. I felt humiliated. My dignity was taken away".

    The paralympian appeared on the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire programme to speak out about the issue of a lack of working toilets for people with disabilities after she was caught short on a journey between Nuneaton and Stansted. 

    Mrs Wafula-Strike added that too many organisations and companies pay lip-service to provision for the disabled.

    Her comments are supported by Sue Bott of Disabled Rights UK , externalwho said: "Unfortunately we have a tick-box mentality to access and the disabled. We don't also consider if the provision is actually working."

  2. Police renew appeal for information about Foundation Street stabbingspublished at 13:15 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2017

    Police still want to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity of Blackfriars Court, Foundation Street, Lower Orwell Street or Rosemary Lane in Ipswich shortly before 22:00 on Sunday, 18 December when the ambulance service was called to treat two men with serious stab injuries. 

    A man arrested after a crash on the A12 last night is the ninth person held over the incident.

    The others are:

    • Two men from Ipswich, aged 48 and 57, arrested shortly after the incident and bailed to return to police on 27 February. 
    •  A 24-year-old man from Ipswich was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder late on Monday 19 December and has been bailed until 2 March 2017
    • On Tuesday, 20 December, a 33-year-old man and a 41-year woman, both from Ipswich, were detained. The 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder while the 41-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. They have been bailed until 27 February
    • Two men from Luton, both aged 20, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and conspiracy to supply controlled drugs on Thursday, 22 December. They were brought to Suffolk for questioning and have been released on bail until 6 March
    • A 26-year-old man from Ipswich was arrested on Wednesday, 28 December, on suspicion of attempted murder and conspiracy to supply controlled drugs. He has now been bailed until 28 February while further inquiries are carried out

    A ninth person has been arrested over a stabbing attack in Ipswich on Sunday, 18 December when two men were found with serious injuries in Foundation Street.

    Essex Police arrested a 30-year-old man from Ealing on suspicion of assisting an offender after a grey Audi A5 failed to stop for officers on the northbound A12 last night.

    The car overturned on the road after police were following it, two police officers suffered minor injuries and a police vehicle was damaged.

    Suffolk Police were contacted by the ambulance service at 22:00 on 18 December, following reports of two seriously injured men on Foundation Street. 

    The men were taken to hospital in a critical condition. Both are now recovering. 

    Eight other people, from Ipswich and Luton, are on police bail pending further inquiries.

    Police say a man and a woman, who were arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of a man in Jaywick on New Year's Eve, have been released on bail.

    A 41-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman, both from Clacton, were detained on suspicion of murder after a 40-year old man died on New Year's Day. 

    Essex Police said the pair are due to answer bail at the end of March pending further investigations. 

  6. Inquest into house fire which killed mother and daughter adjournedpublished at 11:28 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2017

    An inquest into the death of a mother and daughter in Braintree has yet to confirm the cause, although they were found after a house fire four days before Christmas.

    Alina (pictured right) and Emilia Kordaszewska (pictured front left) were found in an upstairs room at the property on South Street at 23:00 on Wednesday, 21 December.

    The cause of death was not given as the coroner adjourned the inquest until the 27 March while they waited for biopsy reports.

    A Paralympian says she ended up wetting herself on a three-hour rail journey because the disabled toilet wasout of order.

    Anne Wafula Strike, of Harlow, said she felt "humiliated" after the incident on a Cross Country service from Nuneaton to Stansted last month.

    She said train staff knew of her plight, but by the time they reached a station with a disabled loo (Peterborough) it was too late.

    "I ended up wetting myself. My dignity was taken away, I was humiliated." said Ms Strike.  

    CrossCountry said the incident was "unacceptable".

    "This is the first time we're aware of such a situation ever happening on one of our trains and we are still investigating how all our established procedures for caring for a customer in a wheelchair could have failed so terribly."

    The number of people killed and seriously injured on the roads in Essex has risen during the last year.

    Figures from Essex Police, external show 63 people were killed in 2016 compared to 44 in the previous year.

    A total of 955 people were seriously injured last year compared to 788 in 2015 with motorbike riders and young men being the most vulnerable road users. 

    Ch Insp Scott Egerton says driver attitudes need to change: "I think everyone needs to understand the consequences of what some people might see as a minor thing of going a bit quick or not looking where they're going. 

    "I need the whole county to be ashamed of these figures and work together to improve road safety and driver behaviour."

     A Paralympic athlete and disabilities campaigner from Harlow says she was forced to wet herself on a train, because there wasn't an accessible toilet.

    She says she's appalled by the situation. "They knew how desperate the situation was as I was actually communicating with the Cross Country customer services.

    "I think it's really disappointing that somebody should actuallty wet themselves for somebody to realise there's a problem here."

    A spokesperson for Cross Country, external rail services says the situation is unacceptable and it's investigating.

    There have been a number of rail delays on the main line from Norwich to London this morning...

    It's the first day since Christmas Eve when trains were due to run normally after bus replacement services were used to provide cover while engineering works were taking place.

    Greater Anglia, external says over-running engineering works at Shenfield were to blame for some delays and cancellations into Liverpool Street, but services are now returning to normal. 

    C2C is accepting Greater Anglia tickets between Southend and Fenchurch Street. 

    A passenger taken ill on the 06:50 train at Stratford resulted in some lines being blocked and the train operator is saying passengers should expect disruption mid-morning.

    A man and a woman are still being questioned after being arrested on suspicion of murder after a man's body was found at a house in Jaywick near Clacton.

    Police were called to Bentley Avenue at the weekend. 

    They think the 40-year-old had been assaulted on New Year's Eve.
