    Three men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man in his 20s was found in a street with life-threatening injuries.

    The victim was found assaulted Arisdale Close, South Ockendon, in the early hours of this morning and a "large knife" was reportedly used in the attack.

    The man, in his 20s, remains in a critical condition, but his injuries are no longer thought to be life-threatening.

    A 22-year-old man from Dagenham, a 23-year-old man from South Ockendon and a 20-year-old man from Upminster have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in custody.

    Essex Police, external have urged any witnesses or anyone with footage to come forward.

    Back in May, we heard from workers who have been spending lockdown maintaining the UK's historic palaces, mansions and stately homes.

    Franchesca Derry spoke about her "surreal" experience living at Audley End House in Essex.

    The buildings at all the sites still remain closed to the public, although some have been able to open their gardens with tickets available online.

    Hampton Court reopened its grounds on 18 June while the gardens at Audley End House will open on 4 July.

    Back in May, we heard from workers who have been spending lockdown maintaining the UK's historic palaces, mansions and stately homes.

    Lucy Hutchings described her enjoyment at having Hampton Court Palace's formal gardens as a personal running track, Franchesca Derry spoke about her "surreal" experience living at Audley End House, and Sarah Johnson told about the problem of the lonely peacocks at Powis Castle.

    Hampton Court reopened its grounds on 18 June while the gardens at Audley End House will open on 4 July.

    Powis Castle is yet to open yet but the National Trust said it was working to open the site soon.

  14. Choirs face uncertain future as Covid-19 prevents meetingspublished at 10:49 British Summer Time 30 June 2020

    A music producer/director says he feels singing is "under threat" due to the coronavirus pandemic.

    Dave Cooke, director of the Waterside Choirs, external in Leigh-on-Sea, says he doesn't know how group singing can return and has raised the possibility of singing outside.

    "Choirs are more than a hobby - they're life-affirming. We have people who are vulnerable, people who do teaching and nursing and for them it is really valuable," he said.

    Chances of transmission of Covid-19 are greatly increased when people shout or sing.

    At present choirs aren't able to meet and places of worship won't include songs when services return in July. Weddings can go ahead but without singing.

    There have also been calls for landlords to make sure there's no singing in pubs at the weekend.

    Essex Police has made a dispersal order for Brentwood town centre, after reports of "a large group of people, all believed to be teenagers, being abusive and creating a disturbance" on the High Street at about 21:35 on Monday evening.

    It follows a dispersal order being put in place in Leigh-on-Sea after a "disturbance" on Friday night.

    Breast cancer screening is set to return to normal service from today at Southend Hospital after being paused because of Covid-19.

    Although high-risk patients were still being screened at the height of the pandemic, routine screening was stopped so radiographers at the hospital could support critical inpatient services.

    The unit, based in the Nightingale Centre, external, has started sending invitations and reminders to people eligible for screening.

    The first to benefit are those who had cancellations followed by anyone overdue a scan.

    Clare Rogers, programme manager, said: "The aim of this service is to detect breast cancer at an early stage, often before any symptoms have been noted, so that treatment may therefore be simpler, more effective and gives a better chance of recovery."
