Big moment for Joanna Parrish's family as her Father, Roger, walks to the lecturn in the middle of the court to address the judge and jury as Monique Olivier looks on

Mr Parrish, 80, was born in Sale, Greater Manchester.

He told the court that Ms Parrish was born on 3 July 1969 - a few days after man's first steps on the moon.

"Every subsequent time that landings of the moon are mentioned remind us of the birth of our beautiful daughter," he said.

"She became a victim of of Fourniret and Olivier five weeks before her 21st birthday. We had already begun to prepare for a family celebration for her."

    Seban is controlled but angry.

He's demanding that Olivier be questioned, saying the process cannot be "stolen" from the victims' families and that justice has to be "exemplary" in this court.

He's cross that the court is scheduled to sit for three weeks only, when he wanted a month.

"We have fought against justice for justice for too long", says Seban.

The other family's lawyers are now explaining their positions.

Mr Seban, the Parrish's family lawyer, is now on his feet, praising the victims' families for their work in bringing Fourniet and Olivier to justice.

He's explaining that the bodies of Estelle Mouzin and Marie Angele Domece have never been found - which is why this legal case is so important.

Mr Seban is demanding to be able to question Olivier as and when - explaining that he wasn't able to question Olivier when her lawyer was there last week.

He's been very consistent that the only way to get to the truth is to consistently question Olivier.

The president is explaining that today is all about Joanna Parrish, killed in 1990. And that we will hear from medical experts and the last people to see her alive.

But Olivier's lawyer is not here - an absence which was anticipated - and so she cannot be questioned today, under French law.

She will be able to be questioned tomorrow, and several more times over the coming weeks.

Good morning from the Cour d’Assise in Paris.

I’m at court with my colleague, Dickon Hooper, for today’s live coverage of the trial of Monique Olivier.

She is on trial for her alleged role in the murder of Joanna Parrish from Gloucestershire.

Today, Joanna’s parents are here to give evidence in the trial along with other people who knew Joanna when she was on her work placement in Auxerre in 1990 when she was murdered.

Michel Fourniret, one the France’s most prolific serial killers, confessed to killing Joanna in 2018 but died two years ago.

  8. Parents arrive at courtpublished at 09:10 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2023

They will give evidence to the court today.

This is a big moment for them - as they have been waiting 33 years for justice for their daughter.

  9. What happened in court last week?published at 08:58 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2023

We are now on the second week of a three-week trial.

On the first day, the judge heard details about what happened to three victims, Joanna Parish, Marie-Angele Domece and Estelle Mouzin.

Olivier told the court: "I regret everything that happened."

Her personality was examined and she told the court about her "lonely childhood" and "violent first husband".

She confessed that she was afraid of her husband, serial killer Michael Fourniret, who she was an accomplice to.

Olivier confessed to her part of the murder of Joanna Parrish in 2005, but retracted it soon after.

Fourniret confessed in 2018, and died a few years later.

Questions were raised about why it has taken so long to bring justice to Joanna Parrish.
