  6. Floating bridge out of action following breakdownpublished at 08:28 British Summer Time 15 May 2017

    The new £4.6m Cowes floating bridge remains out of action this morning after it broke down yesterday - a day after it entered service.

    Travellers had to be helped from the chain ferry by staff, with some taking off shoes and socks to wade through the river water to the slipway.

    A launch, used to ferry foot passengers since the start of the year, has been put back in action in the meantime. Car drivers face a 10-mile road diversion while it remains out of action.

    Video footage also showed cars scraping their bumpers while disembarking the vessel after its first journeys on Saturday.

  9. Woman killed in four-vehicle crashpublished at 08:07 British Summer Time 15 May 2017

    A driver has been killed in a crash involving four cars at Charmouth, Dorset.

    Police were called to the A35 Charmouth Bypass yesterday at 17:36 BST.

    The 68-year-old woman from the Sussex area was pronounced dead at the scene.

    Two other drivers were taken to hospital.
