    A nine-year-old on a school exchange visit has been seriously injured in a car crash in Portsmouth.

    South Central Ambulance Service said the boy was hit by a car on Locksway Road shortly before 19:30 yesterday and was flown to hospital in Southampton with serious head, leg and abdominal injuries.

  2. Person trapped after crash on A35published at 14:12 British Summer Time 4 August 2017

    Firefighters are working to rescue a person trapped following a crash on the A35 between Lyndhurst and Christchurch.

    The air ambulance was called to the collision at the junction with B3058 Holmsley Road and Lyndhurst Lane which involved four vehicles.

    The road is closed as emergency services deal with the incident.

    Merlin Entertainment says visitor numbers were down "significantly" in the first half of this year.

    The firm is also cautious on international visitor numbers over the key summer trading period.

    Level crossing protest in Wareham

    Residents opposed to plans to replace a level crossing with a footbridge have staged a protest at the railway site.

    Wareham crossing in Dorset - once branded one of the most dangerous in the country - is the subject of plans for a bridge, including step-free ramps.

    The level crossing is due to be shut over safety concerns, and as part of a national programme of closures.

    But yesterday, protesters claimed the crossing was safe and their views were being ignored.

    Firefighters were called at about 10.00 on Thursday morning.

    A tree has fallen on to a house in Oxford, damaging part of the building.

    It happened yesterday morning and firefighters had to evacuate residents and cordon off the area in case the tree rolled off the roof, or any part of the building collapsed.

    Station manager Andy Ford said no one was in the damaged part of the building at the time.

    Residents were allowed to return to their homes once the fire service had checked the structure.

    A man armed with a hammer robbed a Tesco Express in Bicester and threatened staff before escaping with cash., external

    The robbery happened at 23:05 on Wednesday at the shop in Holm Square, Southwold. No one was injured during the incident.

    Thames Valley Police has released CCTV of a man its officers believe may have information.

    Det Con Anneliese Palfrey said: “We believe that shortly before the incident, at around 11pm, the offender hid behind a bin before going into the shop."

    If you're planning to use London Waterloo in August you may have to amend your plans as half of the station closes tonight for three-and-a-half weeks.

    Many trains will be cancelled and most others are going to be reduced or altered.

    Network Rail also warns journeys are likely to take longer and there may be "queuing systems" outside some stations.

    The work, which ends on 28 August, external, will provide space for 30% more passengers at the busiest times of day as well as improving facilities.

    Plans to protect two storm-hit beaches on the Jurassic Coast from future flooding have been awarded £3m.

    West Bay's east and west beaches, in Dorset, were affected by flooding last year and in 2014.

    West Dorset District Council has approved £3m over five years towards the £7m protection scheme, which also affects Park Dean embankment.

    The Environment Agency previously said East Beach was at risk of being "significantly lost" due to flooding.

    Firefighters will be graduating from Hampshire's Fire and Rescue Headquarters for the first time in eight years today.

    A recruitment freeze is the reason behind the gap and a ceremony for 27 new recruits will be held in Eastleigh this morning.
