    A Southampton park has been cordoned after a man was found with serious facial injuries.

    Hampshire Constabulary is investigating after attending Blechynden Terrace at about 22:00 BST last night.

    They were called to reports of an injured man and when they arrived on scene he was taken to Southampton General Hospital, where he remains.

    A spokeswoman said: "Investigations are ongoing and as a result a small area has been cordoned off."

    A social worker has been suspended from a professional register for misconduct.

    Yvonne Mieville, who worked at Dorset County Council, was found responsible for "a number of failings", including some relating to child exploitation risks, following a tribunal.

    A hearing panel found she "neglected" her responsibility to vulnerable children and families in her care.

    Miss Mieville has been removed from the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) register for 12 months.

    Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service has joined forces with building owners to inspect up to 250 high rise residential tower blocks across the region.

    It comes after the Grenfell Tower tragedy and fire crews will be visiting 202 blocks of five to eight storeys in Bournemouth and Poole as well as 40 blocks of nine storeys.

  8. Cladding removal in Portsmouth will 'cost millions'published at 08:34 British Summer Time 28 June 2017

    Leader of Portsmouth City Council Donna Jones has said the removal of cladding from two high rise tower blocks in the city "will certainly cost millions".

    The councillor told BBC Radio Solent that the government would be footing the bill after ordering every local authority to investigate the safety of cladding on their blocks following the Grenfell Tower tragedy.

    She said: "Our fire checks are where they need to be, I am absolutely satisfied that residents in those blocks are safe."

    She added that the cladding in Portsmouth "was not great" and the government had ordered the authority work to resolve this "as soon as possible".

    Work to remove cladding from two tower blocks in Portsmouth could take months, according to the council.

    Portsmouth City Council and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Authority held a meeting for residents of Leamington House and Horatia House last night to update them on the works.

    Both 18-storey tower blocks have cladding which has been identified as "high risk".
