    A power cut's affecting more than 1,200 properties in the Dorchester area.

    It happened before midday today, which SSE says is due to a main network fault.

    Homes in Poundbury, Dorchester, and Winfrith Newburgh are affected.

    Banks, jewellers, cafes and mobile shops have all been affected, and there are reports of some traffic lights not working.

    The new Westgate shopping centre has opened this morning but some shops won't be trading.

    Around half of the 125 units are either not ready to open or have not been occupied yet.

    Development manager Sara Fuge said more would be starting to trade in the run-up to Christmas.

    She added there was "pent up" demand for retail space in the city.

    Meanwhile, Oxford City Council leader Bob Price has hailed the opening which he said would "transform" the city's retail landscape.

    A new travelling museum is aiming to shine a light on people who achieved remarkable things, external while on the Isle of Wight.

    Museums and galleries across the island have come together to bring people the story of seven "hidden heroes".

    Those being featured include, prolific dinosaur hunter Rev William Fox and Isabella de Fortibus - the last owner of the Isle of Wight.

    The Hidden Heroes project is running a number of events, external over the next few months.

    Residents who were left without power for a weekend following a power surge in Bournemouth are to get compensation.

    The surge initially caused a power cut to about 470 properties in St Clements Gardens, Walpole Road and Hamilton Road on Friday at about 18:40 BST.

    Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) said it was in the process of contacting the 300 households eligible for compensation.

    The firm said the full cause of the surge was not yet known.

    There have been arrests following an assault in Wokingham, external in the early hours of Saturday.

    Two men were seen kicking another man while he was lying on the floor on Broad Street, near to The Broad Street Tavern.

    Bystanders intervened but were assaulted too.

    PC Ross Kowald, of Thames Valley Police, said: "I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed these incidents or has any information relating to them.

    "We believe that the offenders could have been part of a wider group who were fighting prior to these assaults taking place.

    "Members of the public can expect to see extra police patrols in the Broad Street area while our investigation takes place."

    Two 18-year-old men, from Wokingham, have been arrested.

    The new Westgate development will have 100 shops, 25 restaurants, cafes, bars and kiosks, and one cinema, but it's fair to say not all of you are excited about today's opening.

    Posting on our Facebook page, external, Carl Pettman says: "Just what the world needs, another sterile shopping centre, where it costs a fortune to buy stuff you can get cheaper online and costs a chuffing fortune to park."

    Jill Bailey says: "My heart sinks. Not another crass shopping centre for people to waste money in and then complain they can't buy a house. What on earth do people find so appealing in these places to spend their money on?"

    However, Daren Perkins says: "Looks great, I will have to visit when I'm next down that way."

    A British man who has been fighting so-called Islamic State in Syria has been killed while clearing landmines in Raqqa, the BBC understands.

    Jac Holmes had been fighting with Kurdish militia the YPG since 2015.

    Kurdish representatives in the UK said they had been told by YPG officials the former IT worker from Bournemouth was killed while he was clearing an area to make it safe for civilians.

    His mother, Angie Blannin, said the 24-year-old had been a "hero in my eyes".

    A scheme to help people with autism is set to be expanded in Hampshire

    A scheme to help people with autism who also have mental health problems is set to be expanded in Hampshire.

    About 40 people use the Brain in Hand app, which sets reminders and includes specific advice for crisis situations.

    Users can get help on the phone when they need it, using a traffic light system.

    Tina Betts, from Gosport, was suicidal and had not left her home for months but now she has started college and joined a choir.

    Remnants of a Norman abbey where Alfred the Great was buried have gone on display after the carved stones were unearthed in two private gardens.

    The archway components, from the former Hyde Abbey in Winchester, were found at an archaeological dig in April.

    The details were kept secret while historical research was carried out.

    Some of the 11 "elaborate" large carvings and dozens of fragments have been pieced together for an exhibition at St Bartholomew's Church in Hyde.

    A new shopping centre will open in Oxford later following a £440m redevelopment project.

    Westgate Oxford replaces a 1970s centre that was demolished in 2016, after previous redevelopments stalled.

    It is estimated about 15 million people a year will visit the centre and it will create the equivalent of 3,500 full-time jobs, Westgate Oxford Alliance said.

    It covers 800,000 sq ft (74,300 sq m) and has space for 100 shops, restaurants and a cinema.

    Drivers are being asked to add three minutes to their journey in the New Forest to help reduce animal accidents.

    New signs have been unveiled on the most dangerous routes in the forest to encourage people to slow down.

    The number of ponies and other animals killed on the roads usually rises dramatically in the weeks when the clocks change in the Autumn.

    In total 63 animals were killed on the roads in 2016.
