  4. Reading evacuation: Suspicious item 'not a viable device'published at 08:39 British Summer Time 13 June 2018

    A shopping centre is to reopen after it was evacuated yesterday when a suspicious item was found.

    Reading's The Oracle shopping centre, its car parks and surrounding streets, were closed for more than eight hours after police were called at 09:00 BST on Tuesday.

    One area will remain cordoned off while investigation work continues, Thames Valley Police has said.

    It added the item discovered was "not a viable device".

    An NHS trust that failed to investigate hundreds of unexplained deaths has made "significant improvements".

    A report commissioned in 2016 after the death of 18-year-old Connor Sparrowhawk found "serious failings" at Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust.

    NHS Improvement said an independent review carried out last year had found "encouraging progress", external.

    The trust was fined £2m after failing both Connor and Teresa Colvin, 45, who died in Hampshire in 2012.

    A man who died following reports of a serious assault in Andover has been named by police.

    William John Rudiak, 26, of Winchester Road, Chandlers Ford, was found fatally injured at a house in Turin Court, Andover on Monday.

    Hampshire Constabulary said post-mortem tests revealed he died following a single stab wound.

    Officers are also investigating a report of a sexual assault on a young woman in Little London the same day.

    A 21-year-old man remains in custody after magistrates granted extra time for detectives to question him.
