A scheme has been launched to help first time buyers get on to the property ladder in Winchester.

The city council is putting £4.5m into the My Home scheme.

Under the scheme, the local authority buys a house outright on the buyer's behalf. In turn, the buyer leases between a 50% and 70% share from the council, paying a monthly rent on the share they don’t own.

Oxford's Westgate Centre celebrates its first anniversary today, as figures show it has had 19 million visitors since it opened.

More than 36 million people have visited the city centre as a whole in the past year - a rise of 9% on the previous 12 months.

There'll be a special parade and performances in the centre later to mark the birthday.

The £440m shopping complex covers 800,000 sq ft (74,300 sq m) and has space for 100 shops, restaurants and a cinema.

South East Coast Ambulance service is set to receive £30m of extra funding over three years to improve capacity and patient services.

The service, which covers Kent, Sussex, Surrey and north-east Hampshire, has been in special measures since 2016.

The money will be spent on increasing staff numbers and improving its fleet to ensure it has the right number and type of vehicles to respond to calls of all types.

The additional funding was secured following an independent review that looked at demand for and capacity to deliver ambulance services.

A teacher from South Oxfordshire has won Primary School Teacher of the Year.

Andy Silvester from Crowmarsh Gifford Primary School near Wallingford was given the award on Monday night.

Mr Silvester has introduced a new way of working where teachers don't take books home to mark.

He said he now looks through pupils' books in front of them, so they can learn and achieve targets "straight away".

Ancient conservation techniques are being used to help preserve Reading's historic abbey ruins.

Hot lime mortar is to be used at the site, which is more than 900 years old.

Lewis Proudfoot of Cliveden Conservation, who is helping preserve the historic abbey ruins, said the same techniques would have been used in the original construction.

He said the mortar was in many ways better than cement and modern construction materials.

The abbey, founded by Henry I in 1121, reopened in June following a three-year, £3.15m conservation project.

A four-year project in Thame to visit all 212 graves of the town's fallen soldiers across the world comes to an end next month.

Thame Remembers has seen a cross placed on each of the graves wherever they are in the world.

Mike Dyer, one of the people behind the project, said more than 300 people from Thame had been involved.

He said volunteers visited up to 102 cemeteries and 31 battle memorials to commemorate the fallen.

Police are trying to track down a man following a knife attack in Portsmouth.

It comes after a man in his late 20s was stabbed in the armpit during an assault in Tangier Road, near the city's college on 18 October.

Officers have released a CCTV image of a man they believe might have information about the incident.
