    A higher percentage of voters turned out for the first Dorset Council elections than for Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.

    Turnout for the newly-formed unitary authority was 37.9%, compared with 33.13% for BCP.

    Just over a third of those eligible to vote have cast ballots in the first local elections in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.

    The new unitary authority, which formed just a month ago, said the turnout was 33.13%, with 97,768 votes verified.

  11. Six children arrested after objects thrown at sheeppublished at 13:27 British Summer Time 3 May 2019

    Six children have been arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty and criminal damage after objects were thrown and caused injuries to sheep at Alver Valley Nature Reserve in Gosport.

    Hampshire Constabulary, external said it was first called shortly after 15:30 on Tuesday, and then again on Wednesday shortly before 17:45.

    It has now arrested a 12-year-old boy, three 13-year-old boys, and a girl and a boy who are both 14.

    They have been released from custody without charge, but remain under investigation.

  12. Labour and Lib Dem gains in final West Oxon countpublished at 12:26 British Summer Time 3 May 2019

    The Conservatives have lost five seats overall in West Oxfordshire but retain control of the council.

    The Lib Dems have gained two seats, and Labour has made the biggest gains with four extra seats.

    In the final count, Labour gains included Witney South and Witney East.

    The Conservatives have kept control of West Oxfordshire District Council, despite suffering losses to Labour and the Lib Dems.

    Labour won in Witney Central and Chipping Norton, and the Lib Dems have taken Eynsham and Cassington, and Stonesfield and Tackley.

    There are still four wards yet to declare

    A night of significant losses for Oxfordshire's Conservatives continues in West Oxfordshire.

    The Tories have lost seats to both Labour and the Lib Dems in Chipping Norton, and Eynsham and Cassington.

    The Conservatives have regained a seat in Carterton North West ward, which was held by Peter Handley who was deselected by the local party and sat as an Indpendent.

    The Conservatives have held Carterton South, Hailey and Kingham.
