South Western Railway's train 444040 was named The D-Day Story after the Southsea museum dedicated to the Normandy landings in June 1944.
It was officially unveiled by Royal Navy veteran Artificer Jimmy Ockendon at a ceremony at Portsmouth and Southsea Station.
The museum on Southsea seafront reopened last year after a £5m revamp. It includes artifacts from the invasion and the 83m-long (272ft) Overlord Embroidery. It is hoped having the train bearing the museum's name on the Portsmouth-London Waterloo line would also help boost visitor numbers.
Andy Mellors, managing director of South Western Railway said it was a "permanent reminder" of D-Day.
