    The coast path from West Bay to Burton Bradstock has been closed by Dorset Council.

    The council said: "We are also receiving reports of people visiting East Beach, which is at risk from wave overtopping.

    "Please stay away from the coast. Beaches, cliffs, piers etc. are potentially dangerous during Storm Ciarán."

    The south coast remains under a yellow weather warning, external issued by the Met Office for rain until midnight and wind until 17:00 GMT.

    The deluge of rain has left some homes in the Christchurch and Bournemouth area with discoloured water.

    Bournemouth Water said the heavy rainfall "has resulted in increased colour in the river that supplies Knapp Mill Water Treatment Works.

    "While our current treatment process can remove the majority of this, a small amount may remain.

    "We appreciate that this is not pleasant, but would like to reassure customers that the water is fully treated and is fine to continue to use and drink as normal."

    The water firm said it expected the colour of the water to return to normal over the next few days.

    In Dorset, the strong winds, a high tide and rain has led to Portland being cut off.

    Dan Sands captured the scene on Portland Beach Road alongside Chesil Beach.

    Posting on Facebook, he said: "Out for a walk this morning seeing what Storm Ciaran brought our way - this was the only road on to Portland, no wonder it is closed. Stay safe everyone."

    Staff at a Ringwood pub flooded during heavy rainfall are facing a massive clean-up.

    Water flowed into The Elm Tree Pub, Ringwood earlier where staff are using pumps to try and remove it.

    Pub landlord, Paul Risbridger, who only took the business on a year ago, said: “Hopefully as soon as we can dry it out and clean the floors up we can get operational again quite soon.

    "Obviously the problem is going to be what the weather is going to do today and into tonight because it seems like this storm is not over yet.

    “You do long hours, I’ve put a lot of work in and obviously it knocks you back. It’s going to make things pretty hard for the next few days.”

    Isle of Wight Council has urged people to stay away from the island's beaches and coastal paths as stormy weather continues.

    The authority said: "We have reports of damage to esplanades and sea walls from around the Island.

    "More storm damage is expected. For your own safety and that of your pets, please stay away from coastal paths, piers and esplanades." A Met Office yellow warning, external for wind is in place until 17:00 and for rain until midnight.

    Steps down to a New Forest beach have been closed after they detached from a cliffside during Storm Ciarán.

    New Forest District Council said the Hordle Beach steps had "become detached due to cliff movement".

    The authority added: "The yellow weather warning remains in place for our region, with wind speeds and tidal surges likely to increase through the morning.

    "Please continue to check local conditions and travel with caution."

    Waves and strong winds from Storm Ciarán have caved in the door of a lifeboat station on the Isle of Wight.

    Posting on its Facebook, external page, Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat said: "Unfortunately Storm Ciaran took its toll on our station in the early hours of this morning, rendering the boathouse door unusable and broke [sic].

    "The crew our [sic] currently clearing debris and making safe, whilst waiting for roller door engineer."

    The lifeboat crew said they had never seen "this amount of damage and destruction" in Sandown in more than 30 years.

    The lifeboat station said the storm had also left beach huts and many businesses in the area damaged.

    Wave barriers at a seaside resort have been displaced by huge waves.

    The grey blocks, painted to form a trail and make them easier to see against the pavement, have been pushed and left scattered along Swanage seafront.

    The barriers are put in place each year by the Environment Agency (EA) between October and April to help protect the town from coastal flooding.

    Southampton's Itchen Bridge has reopened.

    The toll bridge shut on Wednesday at 19:00 GMT ahead of the arrival of Storm Ciarán.

    The route, linking Woolston to the city centre, has reopened as the weather has significantly subsided.

    Residents on the Isle of Portland have been told to prepare for flooding.

    Flood warning sirens have been activated and the Environment Agency (EA) has issued a flood warning for the Chiswell area, external.

    It covers the A354, Brandy Row, Pebble Lane, Victoria Square - up to the junction with Queens Road, the car parks along the A354 and the yard along Lerret Road.The warning means

    • turn off gas, water and electricity
    • move things upstairs or to safety
    • move family, pets and car to safety

    Portland Beach Road which links Portland to Weymouth has also been shut.

    A flood warning is also in place for Portland Harbour at Ferry Bridge, external.

    Across the south coast, an amber warning - the second most severe - for wind has been lifted.

    A Met Office Yellow, external warning for rain and wind remains in place until midnight.

    Very strong and potentially damaging winds associated with Storm Ciarán could see disruption to rail services, flooded roads and power cuts.

    The area for the amber warning is now in place in East Sussex and Kent.
