    Worcester Warriors’ young back-row forward, Huw Taylor, says he’s delighted to be among five players from Sixways to have been included in the England Under 20s squad for the Six Nations Championship.

    Taylor, Jamie Shillcock, Jack Singleton, Sam Ripper-Smith and Andrew Kitchener are all part of the squad that will be looking to retain the title from last season.

    Huw Taylor says the strong representation in the squad is testament to the hard work done by the academy and youth coaches at Sixways.

    An energy company has announced plans to launch a plant in Herefordshire to convert waste from local animals into electricity.

    Sustainable Energy Enterprises Limited say the new site in Rotherwas will produce emissions 100 times cleaner than European regulations.

    They estimate it could supply enough power to run 12-15,000 homes.

  8. Free school failing to meet government exam targetspublished at 12:13

    Hereford's Robert Owen Academy has been named as one of three free schools in the country which are failing to meet the government's minimum targets for pupils.

    According to the figures released today just one of its 29 assessed pupils gained five or more A star to C grades at GCSE.

    The Robert Owen Academy opened in 2013 and offers work-based vocational training in areas such as engineering, technology and horticulture.

    BBC Hereford and Worcester is hoping to hear from the school later.

  10. Ethics committee questions councillor over social media postspublished at 11:47

    A prominent Wyre Forest councillor will be asked to explain some of her Facebook posts at an ethics and standards committee meeting this afternoon.

    Fran Oborski took to social media to call staff at the Ginger Cafe in Stourport "moronic idiots" after she was drenched by water pouring off an awning outside the premises last November.

    She's apologised for the posts, but has been asked to appear before the council's ethics and standards committee after complaints were made about them.

  11. Council Tax rise plans up for approvalpublished at 11:29

    People in Herefordshire could see their council tax rise by almost 4% from April - that's an extra £4 per month for a band D home -  if the council approves the plans today

    If the rise goes ahead, 2% of the increase will be spent on adult social care and the rest on additional services including safeguarding vulnerable children.

    The plans are being discussed at the council's cabinet meeting this morning.

  16. Police criticised for holding vulnerable children overnightpublished at 10:13

    Too many vulnerable children are being detained unnecessarily by West Mercia Police, according to a watchdog body.

    A report from HM Inspectorate of Constabulary looking into how the force deals with child protection says in the last year many children were held by officers overnight, rather than being handed to social workers.

    West Mercia Police said: "We have implemented many improvements since the initial inspection, however there are areas highlighted in the review where we need to continue to improve and we will strive to meet these standards."
