    More than 5,000 people were conned into sending planned payments to fraudsters' bank accounts last year.

    Victims were fooled by emails asking them to divert payments into criminals' accounts, leaving the genuine recipient unpaid.

    The number of cases of the scam - also known as "mandate" or "invoice" fraud - is up 71% on the previous year.

    Losses in the UK totalled £126m, according to police figures compiled for Radio 4's You & Yours.

    NHS chiefs in England have announced a five-year plan to help GP surgeries "get back on their feet" and to improve access for patients.

    The rescue package will see an extra £2.4bn a year ploughed into services by 2020 - a rise of 14% once inflation is taken into account.

    It will pay for 5,000 more GPs and extra staff to boost practices.

    It comes after warnings from the profession that the future of general practice was at real risk.

    The 30-year-old driver of a car that plunged down a railway embankment and on to the tracks near Hereford will "not face any action", British Transport Police say.

    Police say they were called to Old School Lane at 06:45 this morning.

    Trains services around Hereford were disrupted until after 09:00 by the incident.

  9. Man arrested after robberies at two bookmakerspublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 21 April 2016

    A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of robbery, external after cash was stolen from two bookmakers in Redditch.

    The first incident happened on Monday at a bookmakers on Batchley Road.

    The second robbery happened yesterday at a premises on Shakespeare Avenue.

    West Mercia Police say the man, who was arrested in the Winyates area, remains in custody.

  11. Diabetic pension still alive six months after doctors feared he had 'days to live'published at 10:48 British Summer Time 21 April 2016

    A diabetic, mentally ill pensioner has survived for more than six months after a High Court judge ruled a Herefordshire health trust could not amputate his severely infected foot.

    Wye Valley NHS Trust feared the man, who is in his 70s, could die within days if he did not have surgery.

    But in September the High Court concluded that "enforced amputation" would not be in the pensioner's best interests. 

    Lawyers involved in the case say the man is still alive, and the judge has now agreed that his survival can be reported.

    A 30-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of the murder of a father from Hereford has been released on bail until 15 June. 

    Christian Bagley (pictured) was stabbed to death in the city on Father's Day last year as he walked home from visiting his daughter.

    A Herefordshire dairy farming family are auctioning off their herd and equipment today, claiming it's not worth them producing milk any more.

    Three generations of the Whistance family, including Sally and Kevin (pictured) work on the dairy farm at Much Dewchurch, and have 500 cows in their herd.

    They say from May they would be getting 19 pence per litre for their milk which costs them 21 pence per litre to produce.

    A car that went down a railway embankment caused delays for rail commuters around Hereford this morning - as this picture from Kane Sumner shows.

    Great Western Railway say services are now running normally, after the vehicle was cleared.
