The Home Office is providing £500,000 as support for 60 refugees from Syria who will arrive in Herefordshire in September.
The 18 families of refugees will be re-settled from camps around the Syrian borders and will include 12 adults or children with health, social or educational needs.
Two years of support will be provided by a specialist service working closely with the council, external and local volunteer and faith groups.
It's the first day of one of the country's biggest gardening shows, the RHS Malvern Spring Festival, external.
Ninety thousand people are expected through the gates.

A bald eagle has managed to evade capture for five days in the skies above Herefordshire.
The seven-year-old female eagle, called Cremone, flew off on Saturday during a demonstration at the International Centre for Birds of Prey at Newent.
Her handler is making his way between sightings in Ledbury and Much Marcle.

Two women acquitted over the death of a man found on a bonfire have received a payout after suing police for malicious prosecution.
Kirsti Windsor was cleared of murdering her ex-boyfriend David Langdon in 2011. She and Katie Brown (pictured above) were also acquitted of perverting the course of justice.
The pair sued West Mercia Police after their wrongful arrests.
The force said a compromise settlement had been agreed ahead of a hearing at Birmingham County Court in April.

A transgender man from Worcestershire is trying to raise thousands of pounds for gender reassignment treatment so he doesn't have to wait years to get surgery on the NHS.
Dylan Darby, from Bewdley, is on a two-year waiting list and says he can't cope psychologically with being in the wrong body for that long.
NHS England said it's committed to bringing waiting times for the surgery to below five months by 2018.
