    MG Motor UK says it will no longer build cars at its Longbridge site in Birmingham.

    We're told 25 people face redundancy as a result of the move, which sees the company ending its UK manufacturing.  

    Car-building is to be transferred to China to "streamline costs".

    At Longbridge, cars will arrive fully built instead, for distribution to dealers.

    A housing charity claims that one in eight tenants in the West Midlands has fallen victim to landlords breaking the law. 

    Research by Shelter , externaland YouGov found that tenants had suffered everything from abuse and harassment to seeing their belongings thrown out of the property and the locks changed. 

    Too often, the study says, people don't know their rights and need more help and advice.

    Birmingham is going to host a 15,000 capacity,100-mile cycling race next September that will take in parts of Worcestershire and Herefordshire.

    Riders will head off from the city centre, along closed-off roads, into the nearby counties, before returning to the city as part of Velo Birmingham, external.

    West Mercia and Warwickshire have collected more than 300 knives during a surrender scheme run over the summer.

    Six bins were set up at stations around the four counties, between 27 July and 19 August and the knives will now be added to a sculpture being created at the British Ironworks near Oswestry (pictured below).

    In Worcestershire there were 162 knives collected, with more than half of them handed in at the Redditch station.

    The Warwickshire force collected 73 knives.

    In Shropshire, there were 79 knives collected, while in Herefordshire there were just nine.

    A pair of knuckle-dusters and two pairs of pliers were also dropped into the bins.

  8. West Mercia pass stop-and-search inspectionpublished at 13:06 British Summer Time 22 September 2016

    West Mercia Police have passed an inspection that they'd previously failed. 

    Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) revealed the findings after the force was not complying with all the stop-and-search rules.

    The scheme was introduced in 2014 to improve transparency and community involvement. 

    Mike Cunningham from the HMIC said he was disappointed that it had taken so long for forces to get there.

    The stations along the route of the Severn Valley Railway have been packed today, with people keen to catch a glimpse of the Flying Scotsman.

    Some of them were lucky enough to have tickets for a ride on the famous locomotive.

  17. Severn Trent complaints fall by almost a thirdpublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 21 September 2016

    Complaints to Severn Trent fell by 28% last year, giving the water company the second-best record in England and Wales.

    The figures have been released today by the Consumer Council for Water, external, which says the company has seen falling complaints for a number of years now.
