Could plans to let drivers use the hard shoulder on the M5 during heavy traffic be in jeopardy after MPs warned against the proposals?

A report by the Transport Select Committee today says it has safety concerns over all-lane motorways although, it cited the M42 - which runs near Bromsgrove and Redditch - as a good example of how smart motorways should be used.

The government intends to turn hundreds of miles of hard shoulder in England into permanent lanes, known as "all-lane running", to expand capacity.

But the "dramatic change" would be dangerous, the committee says.

Passengers using Arriva Trains Wales say the service has got worse in the past 12 months. 

An annual survey by the transport watchdog Transport Focus, external found they weren't happy with availability of staff, punctuality and car parking facilities, but nevertheless 82% (down from 89%) ticked the "satisfied" or "good" boxes to describe their journey.

Meanwhile, London Midland customers think the company has improved, especially the stations they are responsible for.

Worcester Warriors say they will not be appointing a new director of rugby, after the departure of Dean Ryan earlier today.

Ryan (pictured) left the Sixways club by mutual agreement, and will be replaced by head coach Carl Hogg and high performance director Nick Johnston. 

The club's chief executive Jim O'Toole told BBC Hereford and Worcester they had every confidence in the new coaching team.

There's slow traffic on A38 Foregate Street northbound in Worcester, between the A449 Castle Street junction and the Little London junction.

Health bosses in Worcestershire say they had to make a major decision about changing paediatric care in the county without a public consultation, because they couldn't guarantee patient safety.

From September, all in-patient children's beds are going to be closed at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch, meaning sick children and their families will have to travel to Worcester.

Campaigners have criticised the move.

It follows the removal of neonatal services at Alexandra last year, a move backed by the local MP but opposed by protestors.

A former aide to an ex-UKIP MEP raised fears her expenses claims were being inflated six months before going to police, a court hears.

Four men have been jailed after a spate of burglaries across Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Derbyshire, North Wales and Staffordshire. 

Gytis Dambaokas, Tomas Juospaitis, Grazvydas Kasarauskas and Giedrius Batutis, all of no fixed abode, targeted 120 properties which saw them escape with jewellery with an estimated value of £200,000, police say.

"These offences were undoubtedly concerning for the individuals targeted by this group of men, who gave no thought to the concern and distress they inflicted on their victims as they proceeded to ransack their homes," Det Sgt Andrew Chatting said.

All four - pictured above - were each found guilty of conspiracy to burgle at Shrewsbury Crown Court.

- Gytis Dambaokas, 30, was sentenced to six years and six months in prison

- Tomas Juospaitis, 31, was sentenced to eight years in prison.

- Grazvydas Kasarauskas, 34, was sentenced to 11 years in prison.

- Giedrius Batutis, 33, was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Tributes have been paid to a young mother who died in the same crash that left her two daughters seriously injured, external.

An elderly woman has been rescued from a house fire Redditch.

"The fire started in a bedroom and, although relatively small in size, posed a significant risk due to the large quantities of toxic smoke which filled the room and hallways," station commander Stuart Crebbin said.

The woman was taken to hospital following the fire at her bungalow in Crabbs Cross Lane.

An investigation is under way to identify the cause. 

West Mercia Police say they aren't satisfied, external that everyone in the area where a 30-year-old man was fatally stabbed has come forward.

Christian Bagley died in hospital after being stabbed in the arm and back under Hunderton Bridge on 21 June last year.

Two lanes are closed on the M5 southbound between J7 for the A44 (Worcester) and J8 for the M50, due to an accident. Traffic is slow in the area.

The West Midlands Ambulance Service trust is being inspected by the Care Quality Commission throughout this week. 

The commission, which is the independent regulator of health and adult social care in England, will be looking at all aspects of the service and speaking to staff. 

A spokesman from the trust said: "The inspection is designed to ensure we are providing patients with a safe, effective and high quality service."

A decorated SAS veteran, jailed for keeping a pistol he took as a "war trophy" in the Falklands, won't have his sentenced reduced. 

Albert Patterson from Hereford appealed to have his 15-month prison term reduced but appeal court judges said he'd already been given a light sentence.
