If you're anything like me, you're already looking forward to this weekend's Olympic action, especially those events involving local competitors such as Birchfield Harrier Matthew Hudson-Smith who is due to run in the men's 4x400m team relay on Saturday.
Then there's a pair of West Midlanders for Team GB's women's hockey squad - who battle it out for gold in tonight's final.
But what about the lesser-spotted oddities of the Games?
BBC News takes a look at the quirkier side of competition, from "bored-looking" lifeguards overseeing green pools to a ban on "toilet fishing". And if that's not enough, take a look at the headline above- talk about a close shave, or not, as the case may be.

Some of the items stolen from police forces in the West Midlands have been recovered over the past five years.
When thieves made off with a blue flashing lamp, officers in Warwickshire managed to get it back.
But cops in our region haven't always been so lucky. When four horses were pinched from West Mercia Police the thieves got away scot-free.

Nine bikes from the West Midlands force, a sat nav in West Merica and a lap top in Staffordshire are among the items stolen from police across the region. They are bound to raise an eyebrow among many.
Their value ranges from a few pounds to tens of thousands of pounds. "But," I hear you ask, "how on earth could all this property go missing from under the noses of officers?"
In the case of the £113,000 stolen from within the bowels of the Warwickshire force HQ, the answer is, despite a court hearing, nobody knows.
You can see more on this story on Midlands Today, BBC One, at 13:30 and 18:30.
