    A southern white rhino has been born at West Midland Safari park - the third in three years.

    The male calf was born to mum Ailsa during the early hours of Tuesday morning, following a 16-month pregnancy, said the Worcestershire park.

    The calf has weighed in at 67 kilograms, which is about 10 and a half stone.

    Although the newborn is yet to be named, keepers will be choosing a name beginning with ‘G’, as all babies born at the Park in 2018 will begin with this letter.

    A 15-year-old boy who has cancer of the bone in his face and eye socket has flown to Germany for life-saving treatment.

    Doctors can't operate on Billy White's tumour because it's so close to his brain, meaning the only option is focused proton beam therapy which isn't available in the UK.

    The 15-year-old from Malvern and his family were originally told the NHS wouldn't pay for him to go abroad, but last week that decision was reversed.

    He said he'd been "overwhelmed" by the support he's received.

    Disorder broke out at HMP Long Lartin in Worcestershire on Sunday morning following the search of a wing.

    Of the staff hurt, three have head injuries, two have suspected fractured jaws and one has a broken arm, it said.

    "Our prisons continue to lurch from crisis to crisis and prison staff need the protective measures to quell the unprecedented levels of violence they face".

    Seven prisoners at Long Lartin prison are awaiting transfer after six prison officers were injured in a disturbance.

    Disorder broke out at HMP Long Lartin in Worcestershire at about 09:30 on Sunday following the search of a wing.

    Specialist "Tornado" officers were brought in to deal with the disorder, which ended at about 17:30.

    Of the staff hurt, three have head injuries, two have suspected fractured jaws and one has a broken arm, the Prison Officers' Association said.

    Seven prisoners have been placed in isolation and will now be transferred to other prisons.

    A candlelit vigil has been held after a body was found in the search for missing student Thomas Jones.

    The 18-year-old went missing in the early hours of 19 September after a night out during his first week at the University of Worcester.

    On Friday, West Mercia Police said a body had been recovered from the River Severn and Mr Jones's next of kin had been informed.

    It has not been formally identified.
