    Hull's Freedom Festival, external has "a very international" flavour this year. So says its Artistic Director, Mikey Martins.

    We're promised over 200 free performances and up to 70 different individuals or artistic companies showcasing their skills.

    The three day festival runs from 2-4 September and 'celebrates, through artistic and cultural expression, Hull’s independent spirit and historic contribution to the cause of freedom.'

    Bus users in Hull are being asked for their views on services as the city council carries out a review of its subsidies for some routes. The council is looking to save £50,000. 

    It currently offers subsidies to bus companies for local services where there is a "social need" because the fares wouldn't cover the cost of transport.

    A number of services are being reviewed  these include the the 1D, the 1E, the 9, the 16 and the 50. 

    Starting tomorrow, daily consultation events are being held on weekdays until next Tuesday, and there's an online survey., external The deadline to tell the council your views is the 22 July.

    Humberside Police have arrested a 21-year-old-man after a theft in Goole last night., external

    A compressor was taken from a building site and loaded onto a Land Rover which was then involved in a collision on the slip road to the Ouse Bridge.

    Two people ran off towards a nearby farm but a search involving the police helicopter saw one of them caught.

    Humberside Police are still looking for the second person and a white Range Rover.

    The line up's been announced for this year's Freedom Festival, external. It's promising something for everyone as usual with world class art, dance, theatre, street performance and music.

    One of the highlights is a piece of aerial theatre called "As The World Tipped" which is described as "gasp worthy". 

    The headliners are British Sea Power.

    Councillor Dominick Peacock (pictured) has been expelled from the Conservative group on East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

    It follows comments he made on social media regarding the fund in memory of the MP Jo Cox who was killed last week.

    Mr Peacock has apologised and deleted the remark.

    He remains a councillor, but as an independent.

    This former soldier's medal has been stolen.

    Arron Gorbutt was awarded it for serving in Afghanistan. It was stolen when his house on Victoria Dock in Hull was burgled at the weekend. 

    Arron got in touch with us through our facebook page, external and says he can't understand why someone would do this.

    Humberside Fire and Rescue are sending a team to Poland to take part in the Toughest Firefighter Alive competition. 

    It's been described as the Ironman for firefighters, during the competition teams have to complete a number of tasks including: a hose run, an obstacle course, tower assault and stair climbing all in full firefighting gear.

    The children at Sirius Academy in Hull are not using their desks or chairs today for half of their lesson times. Instead they are learning  to use more practical methods. 

    The idea is to improve learning and increase fitness, even the teachers are standing up in staff meetings and assembly.
