    Campaigners fighting plans to dredge a sandbank off the Kent coast have taken a 12,000 signature petition to Downing Street. 

    Goodwin Sands SOS wants a marine conservation zone there. It's asking the Government to stop Dover Harbour Board from taking 2.5m cubic metres of aggregate from the seabed to help expand the port.  

    Campaigners say the area should be protected as a war grave.

    As many as 80 people are believed to have caught a vomiting bug at a swimming pool in Kent, forcing the authorities to close the site today. 

    Staff have spent the day deep cleaning Splashes pool in Rainham and adding extra chlorine to the water after members of the public reported falling ill on Friday. 

    The mother of a 12 month-old-baby says she was left so ill she vomited 15 times.

    The South East set to be covered in fog this evening - the spookiest of the year - with the Met Office issuing a yellow fog warning across the region.

    Fog is predicted to form around 19:00 BST and last until around 10:00 BST tomorrow morning.

    British Olympic skeleton champion Lizzy Yarnold, from West Kingsdown, says she may boycott the 2017 World Championships in Sochi following claims of Russian state-sponsored doping.

    The event will take place despite the International Olympic Committee's McLaren report advising against the country hosting major sporting events.

    Yarnold, who won gold in Sochi in 2014, said her sport is "by no means clean".

    The 28-year-old has recently returned to training after more than a year out.

    The water at Camber Sands has claimed another life this summer, it has been disclosed.

    Mohit Dupar got into difficulties on the same day that 19-year-old Brazilian Gustavo Silva Da Cruz died at the popular beach on July 24.

    Mr Dupar died in hospital four days later but details of his death have only now been publicly revealed - the day before inquests are held into their deaths.

    Anyone traveling by train over Christmas and new year should check first, with engineering works causing disruption on several lines in and out of London.

    A controlled explosion has been carried out on a suspicious package on a Tunbridge Wells street.

    A small suitcase was found left next to a phone box on Calverly Road in the town. As a result several roads and the Royal Victoria Place shopping centre were closed off.

    The contents of the suitcase were found to be harmless, and all cordons in the area have now been lifted.

    Olympic champion Lizzy Yarnold, from West Kingsdown, will return from her year-long sabbatical to lead a four-strong British Skeleton squad into this season's World Cup campaign.

    The Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Championships are set to take place in Sochi, Russia, from 16-25 February, with the World Athletics Championships in London from 4-13 August 2017.
