Disruption on train services from Kent to London will continue for the rest of the week following a freight train derailment.

A 50-metre stretch of railway is being "completely rebuilt" in Lewisham, south-east London following the accident on Tuesday.

Centuries of military tradition will be broken if proposals to close an army barracks go ahead, an MP has warned.

Invicta Park Barracks in Maidstone is home to the 36 Engineer Regiment, external and the Queen's Gurkha Engineers.

It was earmarked for closure last year by the government, which is selling a number of Ministry of Defence sites, external.

Local Conservative MP Helen Grant has now launched a petition to try to save it, saying its closure would have a detrimental effect on the Kent town. Read more here.

A woman from Deal has gone to Parliament as part of her campaign to try to get the government to fund a cancer drug.

NICE, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, say it is open to an approach from the drug's manufacturer about ideas for how they could support its use on the NHS.

It's still bitterly cold overnight. But there are changes afoot.

Here's my latest forecast. 

Kent Police is appealing for information after a girl reported a man acting suspiciously in Gillingham.

The 11-year-old said she believed the man was following her as she walked past the railway station, shortly after 15:15 GMT on Monday. 

She began to run when she reached Victoria Street and reported that he was also running behind her.

The girl returned home safely and officers would now like to speak to the man, who is described as being between 5ft 7in and 5ft 9in and wearing a dark jacket with the hood up.

A consortium of British and European lenders has agreed a £200m package of loans to support a Port of Dover building programme.

The Dover Western Docks Revival project will create a purpose-built cargo and logistics facility at the Port, which currently handles up to £119bn of UK trade each year.

Port of Dover Chief Executive Tim Waggott said: "Dover Western Docks Revival is the single biggest investment ever undertaken by the Port of Dover. 

"It will define how we operate for decades to come.

"Currently handling 17% of all the UK's trade in goods, it is crucial the Port continues to evolve to meet the demands of an ever-changing political and trading landscape.

"The financial support supplied by blue chip lenders underlines the critical role Dover fulfils for UK and European economies, businesses and consumers."

Officers investigating reports of thefts from shoppers in Swanley would like to speak to these two men. 

Nine reports of items being taken from handbags or shopping trolleys were received on Tuesday 17 January.

Purses and mobile phones were stolen. Five incidents were reported to have taken place in Aldi, three at Asda and one at a Wilkinsons store.

Michael Bowditch, 21, has been sentenced to five years for the manslaughter of 17-year-old Becky Morgan.

He did nothing to help her when she fell in the sea in Ramsgate, and even waited two-and-a-half hours to raise the alarm.

The judge called his behaviour "repugnant".

A statement from Becky's mother, Lee Ann Bevan, was read outside court.
