  2. Kent school in 'slave sale' rowpublished at 21:44 British Summer Time 11 July 2017

    A Kent grammar school has come in for fierce criticism after pupils were given a list of people "on sale" at a slave auction and asked to consider how many slaves they could buy for £100.

    The Year 8 history project at Rochester Grammar School has sparked anger on social media.

    But the school has defended the worksheet saying it follows the Historical Association's recommendations on teaching historical slavery and is in line with the Department for Education's history curriculum.

  5. Appeal over missing 'vulnerable' manpublished at 20:35 British Summer Time 11 July 2017

    A fresh appeal has launched to help find a "vulnerable" man who went missing in Ashford.

    Edward Jones, 73, was last seen at around 12:00 BST on Monday walking towards south Ashford from the Ashford International train station.

    Insp Greg McNeil, from Kent Police, said: "Mr Jones is quite frail and vulnerable and sometimes gets confused.

    "He has now been missing for more than 24 hours and, with heavy rain forecast, we and his family are becoming extremely concerned for his welfare."

    The police helicopter and volunteers from Kent Search and Rescue have been involved in the search for Mr Jones.

    Heroin worth £2.25m has been found hidden in a lorry heading towards Kent through the Channel Tunnel.

    The drugs were taped in 40 packages between three pallets of mattresses, in the Dutch-registered vehicle, at the UK's border control in Coquelles, Northern France.

    A 59-year-old man from the Netherlands has been arrested and released under investigation.

    Jewellery and a heart-shaped wooden box were among items stolen during a burglary in Sandwich.

    The break-in at Little Curiosity Box in New Street took place just after midnight.

    Police are looking for two men.

    One of them is thought to have been wearing a black hooded top with white stripes on the sleeves.

    A woman from Kent says it's "shameful" her husband had to travel to Switzerland to end his life, rather than being allowed to die at home in Tonbridge.

    Sarah Starkey supported Andrew Tyler, who was suffering from Parkinson's Disease, on his final journey to the Dignitas Clinic.

    A mother accused of causing her baby's death says she was told to "hang him upside down and shake him" by the ambulance service, a court has heard.

    Eli Cox's mother Katherine Cox and her partner Danny Shepherd deny causing the five-month-old's death in April 2016.

    Ms Cox told Katherine Jenkins she was given the advice after he turned blue and stopped breathing, the nurse told Maidstone Crown Court.

    Ms Jenkins said Eli's injuries compared with those sustained during a car crash.

    A herd of decorated life-size horses are appearing across Kent and West Sussex to raise money for Hospice in the Weald.

    They've been designed and painted by artists, schoolchildren and community groups and will be on display over the summer and auctioned off in October.

    There's been a rise in the number of sexting offences being investigated by Kent Police.

    New figures, obtained by the BBC, show children as young as eight have been reporting being victims of sexually explicit messages in the county over the last three years.

    There were 72 cases last year with the youngest alleged offender aged ten.
