    An inquest has opened today into the death of a 16-year-old whose body was found on a railway line at Herne Bay.

    Taiyah Peebles' body was discovered last week.

    The teenager had been electrocuted, after a night out with friends.

    The inquest has now been adjourned until mid October.

    A Christian magistrate who lost his job and then his role as an NHS director for saying it was better for children to be bought up by a father and a mother rather than gay couples is suing the NHS.

    Richard Page says that the current policy can prevent Christians from holding public posts.

    Mr Page was suspended by the Kent and Medway NHS Social Care Partnership Trust last year - but believes he has been discriminated against as a Christian.

    His former employers say Mr Page's stance "undermined" the confidence of staff, particularly lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees.

    The RNLI is urging people to "respect the water" this summer as part of a drowning prevention campaign, external.

    The charity says more people die in UK waters in August than any other month.

    Seven men died in the sea at Camber last summer.

    Police looking for a 15-year-old boy who has been reported missing from Gillingham are appealing for information.

    Destin Awere-Kyere was reported missing on 16 July and was last seen in the Marlborough Road area on 12 July.

    He is reported to have travelled to Bexleyheath by train and it's believed he's still in this area, or he could be in Greenwich.

    Anyone with information is asked to call Kent Police on 101 quoting 16-1606.

    A giant mural has been painted in memory of a teenager who was electrocuted on a railway line.

    The body of Taiyah Peebles was discovered on the tracks near Herne Bay station last week.

    Margate artist Vince Pugh says he painted the mural as a "mark of respect" to the teenager.

    Going against your instincts could help save your life in dangerous waters, warns the RNLI.

    The charity advises to avoid the natural reaction to panic and splash around the water. Instead, allow yourself to float for a few minutes while you consider the best options of survival.

    The recommendation comes as more people drown along the coast in August than any other time of year. Many people visit beaches in South East England during the summer holidays.

    The jury at Maidstone Crown Court has retired to consider its verdict in the case of two people accused of causing the death of a five-month-old baby.

    Katherine Cox, 33, and her 25-year-old boyfriend Danny Shepherd.are both accused of causing the death of Ms Cox's son Eli Cox at their Kent home in April last year.

    Maidstone Crown Court heard Eli had 28 fractures and a post-mortem examination found his death was caused by an injury to his head.

    Mr Shepherd said he saw Eli gasping and gave him adult CPR compressions which he now knew was wrong.

    Ms Cox said she was told to "hang him upside down and shake him" after Eli turned blue and stopped breathing.
