    A third person has been arrested following the murder of a man in Chatham.

    Officers were called to a block of flats in Shipwrights Avenue at 07:36 BST on Monday 28 August.

    James O'Rourke, 29, of no fixed address, was found dead at the scene.

    A 34-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of Friday 1 September and remains in custody.

    Two others were charged with murder on Wednesday 30 August and are due to appear before Maidstone Crown Court next week.

    Figures obtained by the BBC show there are 6,000 homes lying empty in Kent.

    There are about 37,000 people in the county on a waiting list for social housing.

    BBC Radio Kent discovered it took the authorities 12 years to bring 5,000 empty homes in Kent back into use, though the No Use Empty scheme.

    The scheme offers interest free loans of up to £175,000 to those wishing to revive long-term empty properties.

    The housing charity Shelter says in addition to bringing empty homes back into use, more houses need to be built to solve the housing crisis.

    A Government minister has criticised the security company G4S for refusing to take patients to hospices in Kent as part of their £90m NHS contract to provide non-emergency transport.

    The company argues that hospice care is not provided by the NHS so does not fall within their remit.

    Greg Clark, the MP for Tunbridge Wells, says the transport company should show some compassion.

    The closure of six SureStart centres in Medway has been rubber stamped by councillors.

    The Overview and Scrutiny Committee voted to accept the cabinet decision last night.

    Campaigners against the move said the meeting was the last chance to save the centres.

    Medway Council had originally planned to shut 19 SureStart centres and replace them with four so-called 'superhubs'.

    The proposals were introduced to save more than £1.5m a year, following changes to government funding.

    But a public consultation showed 85% of parents surveyed opposed the plans.

    The council will now create four large 'hubs' and save nine 'Children and Wellbeing' centres.

    If you're in West Malling you're likely to hear a big explosion this morning.

    The Ministry of Defence is preparing to destroy a device, believed to be a World War Two bomb.

    It was discovered yesterday in a quarry, in an area of Kings Hill, West Malling.

    Kent Police says there are no safety concerns but the controlled blast may be heard from a considerable distance.
