Southeastern has closed all its train routes in Kent after several lines were blocked by fallen trees.
Paul Prentice, from Southeastern, said: “Our colleagues at Network Rail are doing their absolute best to try and remove them as quickly as possible, but we’ve got so many trees down it means we’re not able to run trains.
“Our message is very much ‘do not travel’. Please don’t make plans to travel. If you were planning to, then don’t, and stay at home if at all possible.”
He said fallen trees had halted trains at Hildenborough and Whitstable, but both trains had been able to carry on their journeys.
“We had six trees down in 25 minutes. It’s just created a huge amount of pressure and it means we’re not able to run as many trains as we’d like.
“We’re going to be reviewing the decision at 2pm or 3pm, and then we do hope that once we’ve been able to remove trees and any obstructions we will be able to start, hopefully, opening more of the network again, but it is a fast moving situation, and it is changing all the time.”
