  4. MP 'just amazed' to be at Parliament

    Andrea Jenkyns, the Conservative MP who won the Morley and Outwood seat from Labour shadow chancellor Ed Balls, says she's "excited" to have arrived at Westminster today.

    She's told the BBC she's "over the moon" to be at the Houses of Parliament, and is now "trying to figure out" how to work her new tablet computer which is being issued to all new MPs.

    "I don't think it's fully sunk in yet. All weekend I was pinching myself, thinking I can't believe this is happening. I'm just amazed," she says.

  5. City's dignity on fire anniversary

    At this morning's service to mark the 30th anniversary of the the Bradford City fire disaster, it was clear people in the community had stuck together and worked through the pain in a very dignified way.

    Today, they were once again at the modest city centre memorial with heads bowed, some looking stoically ahead. Many wore a commemorative hoody in the claret and amber of the club and bearing the words Always Remembered.

    The Bishop of Bradford seemed to go to the heart of the matter when he said how the city responded to the tragedy and told the world "lessons have been learned, but they need to go on being learned" to avoid a similar disaster happening again.

  6. Appeal after train passengers attacked

    Two men (pictured) are being sought by police after three men, including a father and son, were assaulted on a train between Skipton and Bradford Forster Square last month.

    The incident happened at about 21:15 on Saturday 4 April as the train made its way to Crossflatts station. The father and son, aged 51 and 20, were attacked after asking a group of men, who were being noisy, to quieten down.

    A passenger who intervened was himself assaulted. The attackers got off the train at Crossflatts. Anyone with information is being asked to contact British Transport Police.

  7. Cook signs new Leeds deal

    Leeds United have confirmed that midfielder Lewis Cook has agreed a new two-year deal at Elland Road.

    The 18-year-old Academy graduate, who had a year remaining on his deal, has extended his stay until at least summer 2017.

    In a statement, club chairman Massimo Cellino says Cook was "one of the most exciting players last season".

  8. Council to get new leader

    A new leader of Leeds City Council will be elected this evening.

    Current Labour leader Keith Wakefield (pictured) announced last month that he was stepping down.

    Labour councillors will vote later today to see who becomes the next leader of the authority.

    Leeds MP Hilary Benn has been appointed as shadow foreign secretary as part of Labour's new shadow cabinet.

    Meanwhile, Pontefract and Castleford MP Yvette Cooper remains in charge of her home affairs brief, and Wakefield's Mary Creagh stays at International Development.

    Hemsworth MP Jon Trickett has been made Minister without Portfolio and Deputy Chairman of the party, while former Shipley MP Chris Leslie assumes the role of shadow chancellor.

  11. Happy Valley in Bafta win

    Dark BBC One drama Happy Valley, which is set in the Calder Valley, won the Top Drama Series award at this year's Baftas.

    Written and partly directed by Sally Wainwright, it stars Sarah Lancashire (pictured) as police sergeant Catherine Cawood, who stumbles on a kidnap plot as she pursues a man she holds responsible for her daughter's rape and suicide.

    The drama, filmed in and around Hebden Bridge, will return for a new series later this year.

  13. 'Difficult day' for Bradford

    James Mason, chief operating officer of Bradford City FC, says today is a "difficult day" for the club and the city on the 30th anniversary of the Valley Parade fire which claimed 56 lives.

    "The victims will never be forgotten in Bradford or further afield," says Mr Mason (pictured).

    "We've had messages of condolence from across the world and the victims should not be forgotten."

  14. Bradford fire experience 'horrendous'

    Peter Jackson, who was the captain of Bradford City on the day of the fire tragedy at Valley Parade exactly 30 years ago today in which 56 people died, said the experience was "horrendous".

    He said it came on a day which should have seen celebrations as the club marked its return to the second tier of English football for the first time in decades.

    "I just remember feeling so excited with such a big crowd and it ended in such a disaster," he said.

    Today's ceremony in Centenary Square marking the 30th anniversary of the Bradford fire really brought people together.

    They came to commemorate the tragedy 30 years on in what may have been the biggest gathering of people involved since the day of the disaster at Valley Parade.

    There were one or two tears among the vast crowd. It really got the emotions.

    A garland of flowers has also been placed on the Memorial Bell at the top of the civic staircase in City Hall.

    The bell was donated to the city by the fire service as it came from the first fire engine to arrive on the scene at Valley Parade on 11 May 1985.

    The names of the 56 people who died in the Bradford City fire are now being read out at the service in Centenary Square.

    The bells of City Hall are tolling once for each person who lost their life.

    Reading out the names are John Helm, who commentated on the match, Shaun Harvey, the chief executive of the FA, Phil Parkinson, manager of Bradford City and Stephen Darby, Bradford City captain.

    Speaking at the service marking the 30th anniversary of the Bradford fire tragedy, the Right Reverend Doctor Toby Howarth, Bishop of Bradford, praises the city's "ability to handle pain, to pick itself up and go on with dignity and humour".

    Prayers now follow, remembering all those who died in the fire tragedy on 11 May 1985.

  27. 'The pain doesn't go away'

    At the ceremony to mark the 30th anniversary of the Bradford City fire, The Right Reverend Doctor Toby Haworth, Bishop of Bradford, says: "That day turned into an appalling tragedy in which 56 lost their lives, 265 were injured, and left many, many more lives with enormous pain."

    That pain, he says, does not go away: "The number of people here 30 years on speaks for itself."

    The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Mike Gibbons, is attending the memorial service to mark the 30th anniversary of the Bradford fire which killed 56 people.

    The Mayor and Mayoress of Lincoln, Brent Charlesworth and Kathleen Brothwell, will represent the city at the event. Bradford were playing Lincoln on that tragic day in 1985.

    The service will be conducted by the chaplain to Bradford City AFC, the Reverend Andy Greiff and the Lord Mayor's chaplain, the Reverend Canon Philip Gray.

    Bradford City fan Martin Fuller is among the people gathering in Bradford this morning to pay tribute to the 56 victims of the Valley Parade fire exactly 30 years ago today.

    Martin would have been at the match against Lincoln if he hadn't had a wedding to go to. He lost his friend Craig Stockman in the fire, among others.

    He says: "We just saw all the smoke but didn't know anything for a few days - that Craig was still in there."

    Bradford City fans and players have been recounting their memories as the city prepares to mark the 30th anniversary of the Valley Parade fire.

    A total of 56 fans died and more than 250 were injured when the blaze tore through the ground in 1985, as Bradford should have been celebrating promotion.

    Bradford City player, John Hendrie, has told BBC Radio Leeds: "It was a nightmare scene, chaotic. The black cloud, the heat, the silence - and more than anything else the screaming."

  35. 'Important' to pay tribute to fire victims

    Ahead of today's service commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Bradford City fire tragedy, the chairman of the FA says people must continue to mark the disaster.

    Greg Dyke says it "matters" that the deaths of 56 people as a result of the fire at Valley Parade must be remembered three decades on.

    "You have to pay tribute and it's important to pay tribute. Bradford will never forget it, and because of that it's right that every so often people from all walks of footballing life pay tribute to those fans," he says.

    Leeds United's majority shareholder Massimo Cellino has told BBC Radio Leeds he doesn't want to sell the club. It comes as reports link several parties, including Red Bull, to buying United.

    Cellino categorically denied to me on Sunday that he's talking to the energy drinks giant or any other potential buyer, telling me: "I am not selling".

    The club's minority shareholders, GFH Capital, also told me neither they nor their parent company GFH had been approached by Red Bull last week.

  37. Widnes Vikings 38-24 Leeds Rhinos

    Super League leaders Leeds Rhinos were beaten at Widnes yesterday, with on-loan Vikings forward Chris Clarkson scoring a try against his parent club.

    Leeds began the game knowing a win would take them four points clear at the top of the table.

    But Clarkson (pictured) went over for one of seven Widnes tries as the hosts moved within a point of a place in the top eight.

  38. Galloway to challenge election result

    Former MP George Galloway has announced he has started legal proceedings to challenge his general election defeat.

    Mr Galloway, leader of the Respect Party, lost his Bradford West seat to Labour's Naz Shah, who he has alleged made "false statements" during the campaign to affect the result.

    A Labour spokesman has said the action is "pathetic and without any foundation".

  39. Appeal over sexual assault

    Police in Leeds are appealing for witnesses following a sexual assault on a woman in Burley on Saturday night.

    The attack took place at about 20:35 on St Michael's Lane, Burley, after a man grabbed a 23-year-old woman in the road and attempted to assault her.

    She resisted and he ran from the scene. The suspect's described as a dark-skinned or Asian male around 6ft in height, with short dark brown hair and wearing a dark hooded top.
