  6. West Yorkshire remembers war deadpublished at 10:58

    A two-minute silence will shortly be observed across the UK to remember the nation's war dead.

    Crowds have gathered at the Poppy Wave installation at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, external near Wakefield.

    The silence begins at the 11th hour of the 11 day of the 11th month - the time in 1918 when the guns finally fell silent along the Western Front.

    Armistice Day follows similar ceremonies on Remembrance Sunday to pay tribute to all those who died in World Wars One and Two and in every conflict since.

    Happy Diwali for those of you who are celebrating the Festival of Light - one of the most significant festivals in Indian culture which coincides with the Hindu New Year.

    This morning I've been meeting some of the Hindus, Sikhs and Jains around West Yorkshire including the staff at Anand Sweets on Harehills Road in Leeds, who got an early start on preparations.

    The wave, at the park near Wakefield, consists of 5,800 ceramic poppies and is part of a nationwide tour of poppies from the artwork Blood-Swept Lands and Seas of Red, which was unveiled at the Tower of London in July 2014.

    A cloudy and breezy start to the day, largely dry, but a band of rain through the morning could bring heavy rain on hills in the north and west, with some localised flooding possible across high ground.

    It will feel mild with temperatures likely to reach around 15C (59F).
