Colliery manager Shaun McLoughlin says investment at the site over the years has gone into state-of-the-art equipment, but because of wider pit closures there's now no demand for it.

Mr McLoughlin says: "It'll just be sealed underground. It costs too much to salvage it and there's no market even if we did salvage it. We've got some good mining machinery on the surface we've tried selling and we just can't, so that's going in the scrap bin for scrap value."
