  5. Watch: Leeds vet guilty of animal cruelty after animals kept in 'dungeon'published at 16:23

    A vet and his assistant have been convicted of keeping animals in a "filthy dungeon" in Leeds.

    Police discovered 22 dogs and eight cats - some of them in cages - in the basement and back room of Armley Vets in February.

    Vet Gary Samuel and assistant Rochelle McEwan were found guilty after a trial at Leeds Magistrates' Court.

  7. Rhubarb growers forced to use unorthodox methods after mild winterpublished at 15:40

    Yorkshire's rhubarb growers have been telling BBC News Online how this winter's mild temperatures have been affecting their precious crops.

    Grower Janet Oldroyd Hulme said she could not grow a crop without any frost.

    "We've waited and waited for the frost and it was in very short supply," she said.

    Ms Oldroyd Hulme said she had to put one batch of rhubarb roots in a refrigerator in order to kick-start the growth process.

    The National Lottery, external is looking for the owner of a ticket worth £1m in unclaimed prize money in Leeds.

    The winning numbers, BLUE 2873 7030, were projected onto Kirkstall Abbey (above) to publicise the unclaimed cash.

    The owners of the lottery say that the Lotto Millionaire Raffle was bought for the draw on 10 October, 2015.  If the prize isn't claimed it'll go to help National Lottery-funded projects around the UK.

    People living in a small village on the outskirts of Leeds say they feel abandoned because they have no shops and limited services in the area. 

    Thorpe, near East Ardsley, has seen hundreds of new homes built around it but problems with a road bridge affecting bus services and a lack of easily accessible GP services close by have added to the problems for the fast-growing population.
