    Police are appealing for help after the disappearance of a 31-year-old man from his home in Huddersfield, external.

    Sebastian Michalak was last seen on the morning of Friday 17 June in Ochrewell Avenue and hasn't been seen since. He's made no contact with his family or friends.

    Mr Michalak is described as a Polish white male, 6ft tall and of medium build. He was last seen wearing a cream or white zip-up hoodie with black and white check on the shoulders. He was also wearing black tracksuit bottoms with a white stripe down each leg.

    Det Insp Mark Colman says: "This is out of character for Sebastian and his family and police are concerned for his welfare."

  5. Lotherton Hall's new fawn steps into the spotlightpublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 27 June 2016

    The first fawn of 2016 has arrived safe and well at Lotherton Hall in Leeds, external.

    The fawn is now taking the opportunity with its mum to discover the estate, which boasts a large red deer herd.  

    Councillor Lucinda Yeadon says: "Waiting for the first fawn of the year to arrive in our deer park at Lotherton Hall is always a nervous and exciting experience for our team.

    "It is great news therefore to hear that the new fawn arrived safely and has settled in so well into their new surroundings."

    Wakefield Trinity captain Danny Kirmond has told BBC West Yorkshire Sport he's hopeful of being fit in time for their Challenge Cup semi-final against Warrington.

    Kirmond missed last Thursday's quarter-final win over Huddersfield after being hospitalised with a knee infection. 

    But with the semi scheduled for Saturday 30 July at Leigh Sports Village, Kirmond says that should give him enough time to recover sufficiently.

    "There's not much damage. It's just a case of healing the cut I've got on my knee and getting back to full strength. Hopefully, the cut will heal quickly and then I can push on and get ready for that game."

  8. Tour de Yorkshire 2016 'boosts economy by £60m'published at 10:21 British Summer Time 27 June 2016

    This year's Tour de Yorkshire boosted the region's economy by about £60m, according to new figures published by tourism organisation Welcome to Yorkshire, external.

    The race, which took place on the weekend of 29 April - 1 May, saw about two million spectators lining the route.

    These spectators spent 20% more than they did last year, the new figures show, with spending on accommodation up just under 30%.

    The race was televised in 178 countries and watched by about 11.4 million people globally - double the number in 2015, according to Welcome to Yorkshire.

    I'm out at Kirkstall Forge this morning, Leeds's newest railway station, which officially opens later as part of a multimillion-pound redevelopment of this former metalworks site.

    It's a huge development with shops, apartments a school and offices planned, alongside the promise of 2,500 jobs.

    John Kenny, from developers CEG, tells me the official opening of the station is just the start.

    "The scheme here is about creating a new community focused around total mobility, with transportation alongside new housing and offices," he says.

    "By train it's eight minutes into the city centre but it sits within fantastic woodland surrounded by nature. Nobody else can match that."

    A Huddersfield Giants academy player who died after being injured during a match has helped save the lives of five other people after his family allowed his organs to be donated.

    Ronan Costello, 17, died on 14 June, three days after being injured during an under-19s game against Salford.  

    A statement on the Giants' website says, external: "Ronan was a loving and caring lad who was dedicated to his family and friends. 

    "Ronan's family are comforted that he has gone on to help five other people live their lives and survive, showing a final act of generosity."

    Leeds Central Labour MP Hilary Benn says he has "no regrets" after being sacked on Sunday from his post as shadow foreign secretary by party leader Jeremy Corbyn.

    Speaking on BBC Radio Leeds a short time ago, Mr Benn said: "I think in life you have to do what you think is right. It was a very difficult decision."

    Labour's leader faces a vote of no confidence over claims he was "lacklustre" during the EU referendum.    

    Mr Benn said the country faces "an enormous challenge" following the referendum vote to leave the EU, and while Mr Corbyn is "a good and decent man, he is not a leader".

    The man who was stabbed while trying to save the Batley and Spen Labour MP Jo Cox made his first public appearance on Sunday.

    Bernard Kenny, 77, was stabbed in the stomach as he went to the aid of Mrs Cox when she was shot and stabbed in Birstall earlier this month.

    Mr Kenny was guest of honour before the first Batley Bulldogs home game since Mrs Cox's death.

    There's currently queuing traffic and one lane's blocked on the A1 southbound between the A1(M) J40 junction and Darrington turn off, because of a broken down vehicle.

    As a result there's congestion on the M62 to J32a A1(M).

    There's traffic congestion on the A6177 Killinghall Road in Bradford around the B6381 Barkerend Road junction.

    Meanwhile, there's also congestion on the A6181 Hamm Strasse in Bradford around the Midland Road junction.
