  2. Jet2 to create almost 1,000 jobspublished at 11:55 British Summer Time 31 August 2016

    West Yorkshire-based Jet2 says it's going to create almost 1,000 jobs across the UK.

    The airline will be recruiting 135 staff at its headquarters at Leeds Bradford Airport, with the remainder spread across the country. 

    The positions will cover pilot, cabin crew and engineering roles. Earlier this year, Jet2 announced a doubling of profits to over £100m.  

    If you're interested there's going to be a recruitment roadshow at the company's head office at The Mint, Ingram Street, Leeds between 10:00 and 18:00 on Friday 9 September.

    TV presenter Charlie Webster who contracted malaria in Brazil has arrived back in the UK, external. The 33-year-old Sheffield-born Team GB ambassador travelled on a specialist medical plane with a team of professionals who continued her care on the 20-hour journey.

    He's turned up at the Sir Titus Salt pub in Saltaire, well they do say that beer is going cheep there... (sorry, my editor made me write that).

    Staff at the pub spent all morning with bird seed and water trying to lure him/her down, but we understand the bird has now flown off...

    You've been commenting on the BBC Look North Facebook, external page about the removal of padlocks from Leeds' Centenary Bridge.

    They're being taken down over concerns they could cause damage

    The locks have been put there by couples and are usually inscribed with the names of people.

    It's Leeds City Council's object of the week, selected from their stores of items that aren't on show in the museums. And I suppose you can understand why when you learn that it's infused with uranium.  

    In the early 19th Century, uranium was added to some glassware to give it a green or yellow tinge, which used to be described as “Vaseline glass.”

    We all know that living here is brilliant, but even better news is that parts of West Yorkshire have been named among the best places in the UK to raise a family.

    Calderdale and Kirklees have come 10th in a survey by a price comparison website. 

    It's based on things like exam results, good broadband and access to GPs.

    Well done for having the good intelligence to live here!

    It's claimed a third of young girls in West Yorkshire are unhappy with their looks. The Children's Society says around one in seven are not happy with their lives overall.

    This has come from the charity's annual review of young people's well-being, which is put together with the help of the University of York. 

    The study's looked at girls aged 10 to 15 - it's estimated there are about 78,000 in West Yorkshire. 

    It also says the number unhappy with their lives and their looks has increased over the last five years.

    What happens when love and structural engineering collide? You guessed it, the men in high-vis jackets win.

    Dozens of padlocks placed as a sign of affection on Centenary Bridge in Leeds are to be removed over fears that they could be cause severe damage to its structure. 

    The city council says after the "love locks" have been removed, they'll be "carefully stored" so that people can go and reclaim them.

    The number of frontline prison officers in Yorkshire has fallen, despite government plans to recruit more staff.

    Ministry of Justice figures show Leeds Prison has 75 fewer officers than in 2013. 

    There's also been a reduction in Wakefield. The Howard League for Penal Reform says it comes as violence in prisons is at the highest level since records began.
